Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

"You'd be joining a team responsible for Radiological Protection and Environment at the Hinkley Point A Site in Somerset. Please note this role is based at Hinkley Point A and the contractual working hours are Monday - Thursday, 07.25 - 17.00, perfect for someone seeking a four day working week. Note: There is adequate car parking adjacent to the site.
Key Deliverables
Carry out radiological protection monitoring and related tasks within scope of their competence related to the Radiological Safety Rules, IRR, and/or The Environmental Permitting Regulations.
Carry out radiological compliance surveys to approved and established procedures, in support of Nuclear, Statutory and Environmental Maintenance Schedules.
Undertake radiological surveys in support of work being carried out under radiological control documents or designated work documents.
Carry out radiological surveys and decontamination activities in support of controlled area re-classification or declassification.
Establish radiological controlled areas including temporary areas prior to the commencement of work, including the setting up of radiological protection equipment.
Undertake the servicing of controlled area change rooms, sub-change rooms and temporary sub-change barriers and areas.
Carry out routine performance checks on radiological protection use instruments, following specified defect procedures if required.
Issue compelling advice to a Competent Person (NR) or person in charge of a work party that work must stop due to the radiological conditions.
Carry out routine radioactive source presence checks, and source management tasks in accordance with specified site procedures and documentation.
Assessment of samples using installed air sample counting equipment, liquid scintillation and gamma spectrometry instruments.
Collect samples and carry out radiological surveys for the clearance of waste materials.
Undertake installed instrument routine management tasks in accordance with specified site procedures and documentation.
Assisting in the development of quality administrative systems and processes.
Undertake the role of a support person for access into areas with elevated radioactivity levels.
Support the Accredited Health Physicist (AccHP) and Senior Authorised Person NR (SAP NR), identify radiological hazards and implement specified safety precautions as appropriate.
Qualifications & Experience
We welcome applications for those looking to develop and therefore may not meet all the essential criteria for the role. The successful candidate would be considered on a case by case basis and supported with a PDP (Personal Development Plan) to enable a clear path for progression into the role.
Educated to NQF level 2/NVQ Level 2, or equivalent standard or equivalent demonstrable experience in relevant aspect to the post (essential).
NVQ Level 3 Health Physics (essential).
Practical experience in own specialty within a relevant industry (essential).
Knowledge of the site arrangements for IRR and RSA compliance (desirable).

The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year), and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year). For the purpose of assessing an employee’s annual leave entitlement, a day means seven and two fifths (7.4) hours. A pro rata entitlement will apply for part time workers.
