THE ROLE
This is a specialist technical lead role in a respected engineering organisation. You will oversee full engine installation, operate dynamometer systems for performance and durability cycles, and drive continuous improvement across testing processes and equipment capability.
Key Accountabilities
* Testing Operations: Oversee engine setup; operate and programme systems for break-in, performance, validation, and durability cycles.
* Data & Documentation: Collect and analyse engine test data to verify performance against specification.
* Diagnostics: Respond to and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system faults to minimise downtime.
* Mentorship: Train and mentor an assigned apprentice and support new starters.
* Compliance & Maintenance: Manage annual external calibration of key dyno equipment and maintain a safe, fully compliant test cell environment.
* Continuous Improvement: Drive improvements across testing processes, safety, and equipment capability.
REQUIREMENTS
Professional Experience:
* 5+ years’ experience operating and maintaining engine dynamometers (marine experience desirable).
* Vocational qualification or equivalent experience in Mechanical, Automotive, or Marine Engineering Technology.
* Expertise in marine engine diagnostics and data interpretation.
* Knowledge of 2 and 4 stroke petrol and diesel engines.
Key Skills Sought:
* Strong mechanical, electrical, and control systems troubleshooting skills.
* Proficiency with dynamometer control and data acquisition systems.
* Solid understanding of HSE requirements and quality standards.
* Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills.
