PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant, and indirectly to the Financial Controller, the Financial Control Accountant will be responsible for the preparation of a small number of overseas entity financial statements, day to day coordination of related entity audits, regional balance sheet reconciliations and any related month end and year end activities that sit alongside statutory reporting. Additionally, the role includes provision of tax compliance and regulatory support to the Germany region.

This is a great role for a qualified accountant (1+ years PQE) who is looking for end to end ownership of entity reporting, who is interested in working within multiple jurisdictions and GAAPs and who is looking to expand their knowledge and experience in a variety of different technical accounting, control, compliance and tax areas.

THE TEAM

The Group Finance team supports and drives the financial success of Addleshaw Goddard, striving to deliver a first-class service to all stakeholders. The Group Finance team comprises business professionals across a range of disciplines including Financial Control, Tax, Procurement, Business Partnering, Financial Planning and Analysis, Credit Control, Accounts Payable, Legal Billing and Legal Cashiering.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE

Audit and Financial Statements
• Preparation of a small number of sets of statutory financial statements for LLP entities, under UK GAAP and local IFRS.
• Day to day management of audits for each allocated entity, including regular liaison with auditors, tracking of audit requests and supporting with provision of all required information in line with agreed timelines.
• Working with the Partnership, Tax, HR, Commercial and other teams in finance and around the business to ensure the correct accounts disclosures and backing information.
• Working with the Financial Control team to ensure all audit issues are escalated and dealt with in a timely manner.
• Ensuring all statutory accounts adjustments are posted and reconciled in an accurate and timely manner.
Germany VAT and tax accounts support
• Co-ordinate and review the monthly and annual German VAT returns on a timely basis, liaising with our tax advisors based in Germany.
• Perform VAT reconciliations to ensure balances are in line with accounting records and sufficiently supported.
• Identify and investigate any issues and seek clarification
• Propose and implement process improvements as required.
• Support with new internal system implementation to drive efficiencies in the tax and compliance areas.
• Provide information to our local tax advisors to assist with the compilation of the annual German tax accounts in line with local requirements.
• Work with our local tax advisors and internal tax team to reconcile the local German tax accounts with our ledgers (statutory accounts and management accounts) to understand adjustments and differences.

Other ad-hoc work
• Other support of the German region in relation to accounting and compliance matters, as required.
• Month end accounting and balance sheet reconciliation support for other regional entities, as required.

YOUR AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

To be successful in this role, you will:
• Be a qualified accountant (all qualifications considered), ideally with 1+ years PQE.
• Have experience of preparing statutory accounts and a good understanding of UK GAAP and IFRS. LLP accounts and SORP experience desirable but not essential.
• VAT compliance experience desirable but not essential.
• Have a keen attention to detail.
• Be organised, self starting and comfortable managing day to day workloads.
• Have great communication skills and a proven track record at building successful relationships with customers.
• Have the ability to tailor communications to your audience.
• Take responsibility and accountability for all outputs.
• Have a strong working knowledge in IT systems, specifically across MS packages (Excel (essential), PowerPoint, Word, Outlook etc.)
• German language skills desirable.
