You don't need to know everything - we'll teach you. We're looking for someone who:
* Enjoys supporting and listening to others
* Communicates well and can build positive relationships
* Wants to learn and develop new skills
* Works well in a team
* Is passionate about improving the lives of care‑experienced young people
We encourage care‑experienced applicants. Care‑experienced apprenticeship applicants will be supported by an extra discretionary bursary if successful.
Positive Action Statement: Together for Children welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds and is committed to improving opportunities for under‑represented groups. Care‑experienced people are currently under‑represented in roles of this type, and we therefore particularly encourage applications from candidates who have experience of being in care. This encouragement is made in line with the Positive Action provisions of the Equality Act 2010. All appointments will be made strictly on merit.
What you'll be doing
* Support young people aged 16‑25 who are moving on from care, helping them find education, training, work, or housing.
* Support them to build life skills and confidence; be someone they can talk to and trust.
* Work with other services to achieve the best outcomes.
* Take part in training and development as part of the apprenticeship.
* Bring your own ideas and passion to a team that values your voice.
The apprenticeship is part of a Community and Youth Work degree at Sunderland University (BA (Hons) Community and Youth Work Integrated Degree Apprenticeship). Graduates will qualify in September 2026/27. The role offers real training, responsibility, impact, and may open a long‑term career in children’s social care.
