Shared Application Services (SAS) is a rapidly expanding area within the Home Office, focused on application development and support, utilizing cutting-edge technologies.
As part of the DDaT’s SAS Level 2 (L2) Support Team, you will monitor the Home Office’s core technology, infrastructure, applications, and services, ensuring 24/7/365 support and recovery.
You will contribute to technical estate management, leveraging new technologies, methodologies, and best practices, with a focus on real-time monitoring, automation, and service industrialisation.
The role offers opportunities to implement AI and automation to improve efficiency and outcomes for the public and colleagues.
As a Principal Infrastructure Engineer, you will lead strategic and tactical engineering initiatives, ensuring future-ready technologies and services, and promoting engineering best practices across the Home Office.
You may manage operational relationships with suppliers, ensuring compliance with standards and contractual obligations.
You will oversee infrastructure design, development, support, and maintenance, working with technical architects to shape service offerings and improve operability.
Your responsibilities include workforce planning, budgeting, technology road mapping, and project delivery.

What you will do
Your main responsibilities:
* Lead teams in designing, implementing, transitioning, supporting infrastructure solutions and services.
* Provide operational feedback to technical architects.
* Ensure solutions incorporate security controls against threats.
* Investigate, resolve, and prevent problems, coordinating teams accordingly.
* Establish standards and procedures across the service lifecycle, managing resources effectively.
* Define and promote engineering best practices and standards.
Work may require out-of-hours support, with additional compensation.
