Job summary
This position is being offered as support for colleagues on a fixed-term basis. The post will be for twelve months, with the possibility of extension subsequently depending upon the needs of the service.
The job is intended to be a full time (11.75 PA) post in general cardiac surgery at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. Whilst no particular surgical specifics are stipulated, the potential for sub-specialty development in line with future advances and requirements of the Trust will be strongly supported.

Working pattern: 11.75 PA; on-call and on-site requirements as outlined in the draft job plan
Total PA: 11.75 PA
On-call: Category B, 1 in 10 rota; on-call 1 PA
Weekend ward rounds: 1 in 16; 0.25 PA
There is a post-operative component described as 5 PA with additional on-call and flexible theatre time; the draft plan notes pre and post-operative time and theatre commitments.
Responsibilities
The following work pattern is provisional; exact timetable depends on operational issues within the Trust. The appointee is expected to work flexibly.
Ward rounds, outpatient clinics, MDTs, admin/ward rounds, pre and post-operative time, and theatre duties are described within the draft job plan. The on-call duties include a 1 in 10 rota with category B frequency payment, and the weekend ward rounds commitment is noted.
Unpredictable emergency on-call work is included in the plan.
The post outlines that the successful candidate will have access to secretarial support, a computer, and office accommodation in line with other consultants. There is a stated commitment to research and audit and a training commitment to SpRs. Mentorship/preceptorship will be provided.

Job description and responsibilities

The job is intended to be a full time (11.75 PA) post in general cardiac surgery at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. The potential for sub-specialty development in line with future advances and requirements of the Trust will be strongly supported.
The draft job plan is outlined under the terms and conditions section. On-call for Cardiac Surgery is a 1 in 10 rota with a category B frequency payment.
The successful candidate will have full secretarial support, a personal computer (training available if required) and office accommodation in line with other consultants in the unit.
There is a significant commitment to research and audit and a training commitment to the SpRs. The trust supports the annual appraisal process and routine GMC revalidation for all consultants and all consultants undergo an annual job plan. The appointee will be expected to work flexibly based on the needs of the Surgical Division and the Trust. The workload will be driven by the job planning process and be reviewed and changed appropriate to the requirements of the Trust by the Surgical Clinical Lead with the Divisional Head of Operations with ratification by the Medical Director. It should be noted that full mentorship / preceptorship will be provided to the successful candidate.

Qualifications
* Full GMC registration
* GMC Specialist Register
* CCT or CESR, or within 6 months of achievement
Desirable
* Postgraduate degree
Experience
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST in Cardiothoracic Surgery
* Ability to offer expert opinion on a range of problems in cardiac for emergency and elective situations
* Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities, surgical waiting lists and operating lists
* Experience of teaching at postgraduate level
* Ability to teach clinical and operative skills
Desirable
* A willingness to develop clinical skills and lead innovation in line with future cardiac surgical unit advances
* Experience of supervising SPRs
