In Barco Labs, skilled experts are exploring new technologies and building first-of-a-kind proof of concepts for our Healthcare, Enterprise and Entertainment divisions or to venture into new markets. We challenge ourselves to stay on top of state-of-the-art technology by building demonstrators and explore new use cases with internal and external stakeholders.
Within the Visual Computing & AI technology domain, we innovate in the context of AI-driven data & content sciences, deep learning, GPU rendering and compute, computer vision, 3D visualization, game engines, XR, HMI, application innovation & rapid prototyping, incl. cloud & browser-native technologies.
We're looking to further strengthen our expertise in the domains of Agentic AI (LLM, RAG, CoT reasoning, fine-tuning, tool use, MCP) and Generative AI (vision-language models, low/no-code). You will also be leveraging Descriptive AI models.
As a research engineer,
1. You are a practical and outcome-oriented researcher, you seek to in-depth understand end-user problems and think of innovative solutions.
2. You pragmatically implement first-of-a-kind prototypes combining state-of-the-art HW, software SDKs and cloud APIs with new, innovative steps and algorithms.

We are looking for a Barco Labs colleague:
6. A generalist with a master in computer science engineering. PhD (or equivalent by experience) is a definite plus
7. Experience in Linux and Python

Experience in at least one relevant specialization area of AI or Visual Computing (AI-driven data and content sciences, deep learning, GPU rendering and compute, computer vision, 3D visualization, game engines, XR, HMI, application innovation & rapid prototyping, incl. cloud & browser-native technologies)
11. Hands-on experience with designing and implementing (visual) applications, incl. algorithmic pipelines
12. Preferred, one or more of:
13. Hands-on background in machine learning with 2+ years of experience in training and using deep learning NNs and/or neural radiance fields and/or LLMs or VLMs.
14. Experience with Agentic AI (reasoning & tool use)
15. Data sciences (big data, data pre-processing, training, time series analytics & predictions)
16. Content sciences (generative AI)
17. Rapid prototyping: full application stack, AI in the edge and in the cloud
18. Has a hands-on innovation and can-do mindset.
19. Entrepreneurial research mindset: from ideation with end-users, over iterative rapid prototyping to early-stage value proposition validation
20. Works thoroughly and can work independently and with great perseverance towards a result that meets the requirements and constraints, that is evaluated and documented.
21. Is pro-active, takes initiative and shows end-to-end problem ownership.
22. Is a loyal team player with good (English) communication skills and willing to travel on occasion.
