Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a BMS Data Analytics Quality Engineer to be based at our client site in Whitley.
Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.
Role
This role combines battery modelling expertise with cloud data analytics to support both battery system design/control and battery quality launch-readiness investigations. The engineer will develop and apply lumped/electrochemical models (electro-thermal, ageing/degradation) for plant simulation and control‑oriented applications, and will also curate clean, traceable datasets from existing BigQuery tables and deliver focused analytics to support battery quality investigations and containment. The role works as a technical liaison between on-board BMS and cloud BMS/analytics teams, providing ad‑hoc/on‑call support across MLA, EMA & JEA BEVs, in‑house PHEV BMS (21MY–28MY), and X590 BMS (19MY & 21MY).
Area of Responsibility
* Battery Modelling (Electrochemical / Lumped)
o Develop and apply lumped and electrochemical battery models covering electro‑thermal behaviour and ageing/degradation mechanisms.
o Support plant simulation and control‑oriented applications; improve model fidelity for use in BMS algorithms and system simulations.
o Validate models against test and operational data to ensure accuracy, robustness, and suitability for real‑time use.
* Cloud Battery Data Analytics (BMS / Fleet / Quality)
o Perform advanced data analytics for cloud‑based BMS applications to extract insights on performance, degradation, and usage patterns.
o Support predictive analytics and model‑based decision making using large‑scale datasets.
* Battery Quality Launch Readiness – Ad‑Hoc / On‑Call Support
o Query existing BigQuery tables and curate clean, traceable datasets to support battery quality issues and investigations.
o Deliver focused analytics (trends, anomalies, correlations) to support investigation, containment, and readiness decisions during launch windows.
o Provide on‑call/ad‑hoc support aligned to launch priorities across MLA, EMA & JEA BEVs, in‑house PHEV BMS (21MY–28MY), and X590 BMS (19MY & 21MY).
* Cross‑Team Technical Liaison
o Act as the technical interface between on‑board BMS teams and cloud BMS/analytics teams to ensure alignment of embedded models and cloud insights.
o Translate analytical findings into clear recommendations for feature teams, program leadership, and quality stakeholders.
Knowledge / Experience
* Strong understanding of battery systems and lithium‑ion battery behaviour.
* Experience in battery modelling (electrochemical and/or lumped), including thermal and ageing/degradation aspects.
* Hands‑on experience with data analytics and model‑based development using large datasets.
* Proficiency in BigQuery/SQL and Python for data extraction, curation, and analytics.
* Ability to work across embedded and cloud environments; strong stakeholder communication and problem solving.
* Ability to operate in time‑critical launch environments with structured, traceable outputs.
