Senior Benefit Risk Evaluation Assessor – Musculoskeletal, Trauma and Cosmetic / Cardiovascular and Fluid Management
Position Type: 12‑month fixed‑term contract (internal move or temporary promotion).

About the Team
The Benefit/Risk Evaluation Team II is part of the Safety and Surveillance group. The team monitors the safety of medicines and medical devices across a range of therapeutic areas, including musculoskeletal, trauma, cosmetic, cardiovascular and fluid management.
Role Purpose
To conduct robust benefit‑risk assessments of potential safety signals from data sources, using technical, scientific, clinical and regulatory expertise. Assessors engage with patients, the public and other stakeholders to provide timely recommendations and risk‑mitigation actions.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, influence or deliver consistently high‑quality critical appraisals and assessment projects for significant safety or risk‑benefit issues, integrating real‑world evidence within agreed timelines.
* Actively engage with patients, the public, key external stakeholders, government departments, professional bodies and the wider health sector.
* Develop communications for the public, senior officials or ministers and provide scientific, technical and clinical input for timely advice to healthcare professionals.
* Lead cross‑portfolio projects, mentor junior staff and deploy resources to achieve agency patient‑safety goals.
Candidate Profile
* Comprehensive experience critically analysing clinical and scientific information from a range of sources, making sound recommendations to protect patient safety and public health.
* In‑depth knowledge of national and European/International medicine and/or medical‑device regulations and procedures relevant to the MHRA role in Benefit‑Risk Evaluation.
* In‑depth knowledge of products in either the musculoskeletal, trauma and cosmetic or the cardiovascular and fluid‑management therapeutic areas.
* Excellent interpersonal skills facilitating teamwork, consulting and cooperation with colleagues from different disciplines.
* Commitment to sharing knowledge and improving the capability of the wider safety and surveillance function.
Technical Requirements
* A degree in a relevant health, scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., medicine, biochemistry, physiology, medical engineering or regulation).
* In‑depth knowledge of relevant regulations and procedures aligned to the MHRA role in Benefit‑Risk Evaluation.
* In‑depth knowledge of medical products in either therapeutic area mentioned above.
* Experience in assessment‑focused work with breast and cosmetic implants is highly advantageous for the musculoskeletal, trauma and cosmetic team.
