Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children

We are looking for an experienced, dynamic practitioner passionate about safeguarding children who has strong leadership skills or feels ready to take the next step in their career progression.
Main duties of the job
* Operational management of the child part of the team.
* Undertake leadership and management training to fulfil the Named Nurse role.
* Support new and existing staff to develop safeguarding knowledge, skills and expertise.
* Act as a safeguarding child practitioner – duty, training, supervision and report writing.
* Undertake child safeguarding practice reviews and domestic homicide reviews.
* Work closely with multi‑agency partners for safeguarding, looked‑after children and domestic abuse.
* Support the safeguarding team to fulfil multi‑agency responsibilities required by the Kent Safeguarding Children Multi‑Agency Partnership and Kent and Medway Adult Safeguarding Board.
* Develop awareness of trauma‑informed practice across the Trust.
* Participate in the development of safeguarding policies and guidelines.
* Promote the Think Family agenda across all safeguarding activities.
* Provide advice and act as a resource to other departments within the Trust for safeguarding children and looked‑after children.
* Build strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Communicate sensitive, complex information to patients, relatives and colleagues with empathy and reassurance.
* Work collaboratively with the senior nursing team and the Trust Safeguarding team to ensure effective education, supervision, oversight, completion of statutory safeguarding processes and service development.
* Support activities necessary for the Trust to meet its responsibilities for looked‑after CYP.
* Operate within NMC guidelines and Trust policies, ensuring compliance with risk management procedures.
* Supervise and manage staff in accordance with NHS Manager code of conduct.
Qualifications and Training
* Registered Nurse, Midwife or RN Adult with Specialist Community Public Health with child and family focus at degree level.
* Evidence of post‑registration study.
Clinical Skills and Experience
* 5 years experience with 2 years working in safeguarding at Band 7 or above.
* Experience of designing and delivering safeguarding training.
* Expert knowledge of the Children Act (1989 and 2004), Working Together 2026 and NICE guidance for looked‑after children and young people 2021.
* Continuous quality improvement.

* Staff development and empowerment.
* Negotiating and influencing skills.
* Experience of previously managing a team.
* Participation in audit.
* Experience of safeguarding in the acute setting.
* Previous experience of completing child safeguarding practice reviews.

* Knowledge and understanding of clinical governance.
* Understanding of risk management.
* Experience of safeguarding investigations, RCAs, SIs.
* Working knowledge of the HSIB investigation process.

* Highly developed communication skills, written and verbal.

* Good level of IT skills.
* Ability to travel between sites.
