Head of Year
Outer London (Redbridge) • Full‑Time, Permanent • September 2026 • Salary: £37,870–£56,154 (M1 – UPS3)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and inspirational Head of Year to join a successful secondary school in Outer London from September 2026. We are seeking an ambitious and committed teacher with a genuine passion for pastoral leadership, student wellbeing and academic achievement.
The successful candidate will have high expectations of all students and be a reflective practitioner who is committed to continually developing and improving their practice. As Head of Year, you will play a vital role in supporting students both academically and personally, ensuring they are motivated, engaged and able to achieve their full potential.
You will lead a dedicated pastoral team consisting of a Deputy Head of Year, SEND Deputy Head of Year and a team of tutors, working collaboratively to provide strong guidance and support for the year group. The role will also involve regular communication with parents and carers, discussing student progress and working together to ensure students are supported in all aspects of school life.
The successful candidate will deliver aspirational weekly assemblies, promoting high expectations and helping students develop confidence, ambition and resilience. You will also play a key role in coordinating mentoring, counselling and careers support, ensuring students receive the guidance and opportunities they need to succeed both in school and beyond.
A key part of the role will be analysing and acting on key pastoral and academic data, including attendance, behaviour and attainment. You will use this information to implement effective strategies that help improve and maintain excellent attendance, positive behaviour and strong academic progress across the year group.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage a year group and a team of tutors, providing guidance and pastoral support to ensure students thrive.
* Work closely with the Deputy Head of Year and SEND Deputy Head of Year to support students with a range of needs.
* Monitor and analyse attendance, behaviour and attainment data, implementing strategies to support improvement.
* Meet regularly with parents and carers to discuss student progress and wellbeing.
* Deliver aspirational weekly assemblies that promote the school’s ethos and values.
* Support and coordinate mentoring, counselling and careers sessions for students.
* Promote high standards of conduct, engagement and achievement across the year group.

* Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
* Be a motivated and reflective practitioner with high expectations for students.
* Demonstrate strong pastoral leadership and organisational skills.
* Be passionate about supporting young people’s academic progress and personal development.
* Be able to build positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
* Be committed to maintaining excellent standards of attendance, behaviour and engagement.
