Our Health Visiting service in Camden is part of a well-developed partnership with the London Borough of Camden Early Years' Service and we are presently implementing a new universal pathway for all families in the first 1001 days. All families will be offered the Newborn Behavioural Observation which strengthens parents' abilities in reading the infant’s emotional signals in a more attuned way, thus supporting children’s healthier socio-emotional development.

Main duties of the job

Community Nursery Nurses work as a member of the Integrated Early Years’ Service in the delivery of health education/health promotion and they support the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme to families within Camden. They work closely with children and families who use our services and play an important contribution in how people experience our services. Community Nursery Nurses are expected to be kind and responsive but professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the services we provide by:

1. keeping the people who using our services as safe as possible by recognising the limits of the Community Nursery Nurse role and working closely with Health Visitors in the planning and delivery of services.
2. contributing to the best possible outcomes for children and families by using up-to-date knowledge and skills and adhering to evidence based policies and procedures when delivering programmes of care to promote positive outcomes for children and families.
3. ensuring the children and families using our services have a good experience by respecting, empowering and working in partnership with families and partner agencies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Community Nursery Nurses are expected to be competent and confident and will have previous experience of working with children before coming into post. They contribute to the effectiveness of services by:

4. Supporting the planning, organisation and delivery of defined aspects of the healthy child programme, including annual health reviews, parenting support, child health clinics and home visiting.
5. Working with children and families in the assessment of their health and well-being and making referrals as appropriate under the supervision of the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing team.
6. Developing and contributing to parenting support groups.
7. Support the health visiting teams in planning programmes of care to promote positive outcomes for children and families, including those requiring a higher level of health promotion or preventative intervention.
8. Communicate effectively with other members of the team regarding the management of individual clients and issues relating to service delivery.
9. Referring to other teams or services as appropriate.
10. Contributing to creating and maintaining high performing teams by: communicating well with all members of the team understanding their role in the team and how they help the team achieve its’ objectives Ø reflecting on their own practice regularly identifying how care could be improved
