Do you have a passion for health and safety, emergency planning, and driving industry‑leading standards? Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can make a genuine impact on the UK’s climate and energy future? Join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and play a crucial part in delivering one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the country.

About the Role

The Emergency Preparedness Lead sits within the Site Operations Team and reports to the Site Operations Lead. You will take responsibility for the coordination of construction site incidents and ensure site‑wide compliance with Emergency Arrangements. This is a high‑profile role requiring exceptional commitment to safe delivery, emergency response coordination, and stakeholder management across a complex, multi‑contractor environment. You will work closely with the Principal Contractor and other partners to manage, monitor, and improve emergency preparedness across the site—covering day to day incident response through to major event recovery planning.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead, plan, manage, and coordinate site‑wide incident and emergency response, management, and recovery.
* Support the SZC Emergency Preparedness Officer in implementing Off‑Site Nuclear Emergency Plans and liaising with external emergency responders.
* Act as the key point of contact for all SZC Contractor Partners, supporting the development of their Incident Management Plans and ensuring alignment with SZC Emergency Arrangements.
* Understand the scope and risks of all new contractor activities and ensure proportionate incident management plans, equipment, and training are in place.
* Work with Service Delivery Managers to procure site emergency response, medical, and rescue capabilities aligned to construction risk.
* Support the design and delivery of site‑wide integrated training exercises and drills, and ensure learning is captured and implemented.
* Plan for and eventually lead the Incident Management and Exercise Team (IMET).
* Contribute to construction plot plan development and design requirements affecting emergency management.
* Work in close partnership with the Security Control Room to ensure effective command, control, communication, and coordination practices.
* Ensure robust and fully integrated incident and emergency plans, protocols, and radio communication systems.
* Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across emergency preparedness and site safety arrangements.
* Support health and safety management arrangements throughout the construction phase.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential

* Strong understanding of the Principal Contractor role within civil engineering or infrastructure environments (ideally medium to large‑scale projects).
* Experience in emergency response, incident management, or similar functions in complex operational environments.
* Ability to translate complex information into simple, effective emergency arrangements.
* Excellent communication skills across all organisational levels.
* Strong IT skills.

Desirable

* Knowledge of JESIP and/or C3/4 principles.
* Experience working within COMAH sites.
* Experience in large‑scale infrastructure, construction, or high‑hazard environments.

Key Competencies

* Strong leadership and influencing skills across multi stakeholder groups.
* Ability to manage high‑pressure emergency situations with clarity and confidence.
* Excellent organisational capability and attention to detail.
* Collaborative working style with a continuous improvement mindset.

Why Join Sizewell C?

* Be part of a transformative project that contributes to the UK’s net‑zero ambitions.
* Collaborate with industry leaders and government stakeholders.
* Enjoy career‑defining opportunities in a supportive and innovative environment.
