Job overview

As a Staff Nurse at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, you will be primarily based at this hospital. However, there may be future requirements to work at a different hospital or community location. Outpatient services are delivered between 8am and 6pm Monday – Friday, but there may also be future requirements to support evening and weekend clinics.
The role is a primary function supporting the team for the optimal care of our patients. The delivery of high quality, effective and compassionate health care to the patients of the Hampshire Foundation Trust is the most important objective for the organisation



Main duties of the job

To support the team in the delivery of the service, this includes: High standards of Professional Practice to ensure quality and safety of patient care, experience, and the patient journey. Developing own clinical practice, knowledge, skills, and experience. Acting as a good role model. Supporting the team in ensuring that the clinical services are delivered to a high quality of care and that all compliance requirements such as CQC and contractual requirements are achieved. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To adhere to code of Conduct / Professional Standards of your Profession e.g. NMC or HPC As a clinician to embrace and implement the vision and values of HHFT To be responsible for contributing to the creation and maintenance of a clinical environment in which care compassion is consistently demonstrated, ensuring patient centred care, privacy and dignity is always practiced. To always adhere to the trust and local Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy. To advise and support all clinicians and staff working in the outpatient department and direct best practice acting as a professional leader, informal educator, and role model in all aspects of work to clinicians, patients, and carers. Ensure the appropriate instruments and consumables are available for procedures. Undertake training and achievement of competencies required for treatments in outpatient clinics to provide support and accountability using professional knowledge and skills appropriately. These include, but aren’t limited to visual fields testing, visual acuities, Phlebotomy, ECG, wound care / leg ulcer dressings, assisting sigmoidoscopies, minor surgery, flowmetry, bandaging / injecting haemorrhoids, spirometry, Chaperone clinicians and patients as required. Essential criteria

1. Essential criteria

4. Degree level education or equivalent Knowledge and skills gained through any combination of alternative study, or employment experience. Professional UK registration e.g. NMC, HPC Computer Literate
5. Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD) clearly recorded for professional profile. Completed clinical placement in a variety of areas. Knowledge of the management of in-patients and outpatients including evidence-base strategies

6. Experience of staff supervision Awareness of local and national agenda within the speciality Previous experience of working in an outpatient setting.

TEACHING, TRAINING AND RESEARCH RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential criteria

7. To have a clinical knowledge across a range of work practices To be aware of the evidence base, current national development within the speciality and to utilise this knowledge and best practice in supporting the development of clinical services To support the team in maintaining a broad, clinical set within the team to ensure high quality and compassionate care for all patients presenting to the clinical area. To be personally competent to support the development of clinical competency within the clinical area, by assisting in drug and clinical assessments for own staff and to support other areas as needed
8. To assist in the delivery of appropriate aspects of the Trust wide clinical skills training, working collaboratively with clinical specialist t colleagues and support by the Education team. To assist with the management of assistants through delegation of tasks to assistant grades of staff, monitoring the standards of work through the competency framework. To assist in the effective induction and orientation of new staff, to meet specific needs e.g. staff on probationary contracts. To support the achievement of clinical standards and to regularly audit and implement actions to maintain and improve quality and safety.
