We are seeking an ECU Manager to lead our Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals.
Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership for financial investigations to ensure compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer, with a focus on performance, development, and delivery.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC) and influence at senior levels to align Environment Agency priorities with external enforcement efforts.
* Support the wider organisation in understanding POCA, share lessons learned, contribute to technical documentation, and advise enforcement officers nationwide.
* Work with the two ECU teams (Asset Denial and Money Laundering) comprising Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers, and Crime Analysts; the unit is nationally dispersed and handles serious, complex crime involving organised networks.
* Engage in incident response and be available for incidents or business continuity support; travel across the country may be required. This role is hybrid, with flexible home and office work and potential additional payment for incident work.
Experience/Skills Required
* Exceptional leadership skills, preferably with experience leading a dispersed team.
* Good understanding of financial investigations and POCA.
* Experience in:
* Working in the law enforcement sector and understanding the National Intelligence Model.
* Effective communication, including delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders.
* Ability to work under pressure and prioritise a varied workload.
* Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices.
* Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and individuals within it.

Additional Information
* This is a hybrid role with travel across the country for meetings and operational duties; incident response may be required and could attract an additional payment.
