The Digital Content Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the structural foundations of the organisation’s content ecosystem. This role ensures that content is structured, reusable, and optimised for delivery across multiple platforms and channels. The Content Architect collaborates closely with content strategists, product teams, and developers to enable scalable, high-quality, and AI-ready content operations.
Responsibilities
Content Modelling & Architecture
* Define and maintain content models, taxonomies, and metadata frameworks to support structured authoring and content reuse.
* Develop modular content structures (e.g., DITA components, reusable blocks) that enable scalability across formats and channels.
* Implement and manage semantic tools (e.g., taxonomy, ontology), structured metadata, and version‑controlled assets.
* Standardise how content is created, stored, and reused by implementing content modelling, supporting automation, personalisation, and localisation at scale.
Platform & Systems Support
* Support the administration and optimisation of core content platforms, including CMS (Contentstack), CCMS, CDP, and DAM.
* Oversee the integration of content models with enterprise systems such as marketing automation, product information management, and translation management systems.
* Ensure content structures are AI‑ready, web‑first, and optimised for multi‑channel delivery.
Content Lifecycle & Migration
* Enable and promote content reuse across platforms, divisions, and product lines to improve efficiency and reduce duplication.
* Facilitate migration of technical and website content from legacy systems to new, structured content models (e.g., DITA, Contentstack).
* Support the authoring, transformation, and delivery of structured content across multiple formats (e.g., PDF, HTML, XML).
Governance & Best Practices
* Develop and maintain content governance frameworks, standards, and policies for content structure and metadata.
* Champion best practices in accessibility, localisation, SEO, and user‑centred design within content architecture.
* Ensure compliance with brand, accessibility (WCAG), and regulatory standards in all content structures.
Collaboration & Enablement
* Work closely with content creators, administrators, marketers, and developers to ensure content models meet business and user needs.
* Provide training and documentation on content modelling, metadata, and platform best practices.Act as a subject‑matter expert for structured content, taxonomy, and metadata.
Innovation & Optimisation
* Stay ahead of emerging trends in content technology, modelling, and operations.
* Pilot and implement new tools and methodologies to future‑prove the content ecosystem.
* Support AI innovation and automation initiatives related to content structure and delivery.
Skills & Experience
* Experience in content modelling, taxonomy design, and structured authoring (e.g., DITA, XML, modular content).
* Strong understanding of content management systems (CMS, CCMS, DAM) and digital content workflows.
* Familiarity with metadata standards, semantic tools, and content governance frameworks.
* Ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams and communicate complex concepts clearly.
* Knowledge of accessibility, SEO, localisation, and multi‑channel content delivery best practices.
