Strategic Design and Transition Programme - Strategy Policy Specialist

We’re looking for an experienced Strategy and Policy Specialist to join the Strategic Design and Transition Programme, working on the implications of the Independent Water Commission’s report for the future of the EA. This unique opportunity places you at the forefront of shaping the agency’s future framework and design while ensuring continued protection and enhancement of our environment.
Responsibilities
* Support work to provide high‑quality, balanced, evidence‑based advice on future thinking in light of the IWC report recommendations, particularly the recommendation to create a single water regulator.
* Engage with colleagues across Government, within the EA, and with other regulators to ensure collaborative development of our thinking.
* Embrace constructive challenge and diverse thinking while keeping pace in a fast‑moving environment.
* Take a flexible approach and assist other projects and workstreams within the programme as needed.
* Act as an active member of the Programme team, fostering conditions for a high‑performing, agile team to thrive amid high demand and ambiguity.
Experience and Skills
* Experience of working with central government to develop policy, including working with specialist economists and scientists.
* Ability to think and act strategically.
* Excellent communication and engagement skills, translating complex or ambiguous issues and information into simple, targeted advice often at short notice.
* Experience of working across boundaries and influencing at all levels.
Location
EA Office base location; as a national role, the working location is flexible. Some travel, including occasional overnight stays, may be required.
Contract Length
Up to 12 months.
