An opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 HCPC registered Clinical Scientist to join the Radiotherapy Physics team at Poole Hospital, supporting the treatment planning, QA & dosimetry and brachytherapy sections of the department. The role involves participating in the provision and development of all aspects of the Radiotherapy Physics service over the full range of areas, and undertaking specialist clinical scientific and technical duties within Radiotherapy Physics.
Key Responsibilities
* On-going quality control and calibration of all radiotherapy and radiotherapy physics equipment.
* Routine provision of all aspects of the radiotherapy treatment planning service.
* Brachytherapy (HDR gynae, HDR prostate, Iodine seed) treatments.
* Commissioning and clinical application of new radiotherapy equipment and techniques.
* Project work developing the service.
* Help train STP and PTP trainees, and after development work, train other members of the department.
Three Truebeams are situated at Poole, with a fourth at our satellite centre in Dorchester. External beam treatment planning is done using Eclipse. The brachytherapy service at Poole Hospital offers treatment for gynaecological (vault and cervix) and prostate (HDR and LDR), with the intention to offer skin and oesophageal treatments in the future. Mosaiq is used throughout the department as the record and verify system.
There is also considerable scope for development work, such as implementing AI Autocontouring and ProKnow facilitated audit of plan quality. The department is a reference site for Sun Nuclear and VisionRT and we are involved in early adoption and development work with both suppliers. Final year STP students are encouraged to apply. Depending on circumstances/project support, we will consider trainees transferring to Poole to complete STP here, with the B7 post commencing once STP is passed.
UHD is investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. As part of this, some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.
UHD has active networks including Women’s, BAME, Pride, EU, Pro Ability, and Armed Forces. We support Disability Confident and Armed Forces Covenant interview schemes.
