This post is to assist the Head Cook and other staff in preparing, cooking and serving meals, cleaning and maintaining all areas of the kitchen, kitchenette and other relevant areas in a clean, tidy and hygienic condition, meeting the required standards. Flexibility is required as successful candidates may undertake other duties in order to meet the changing
needs of the organisation.
Job Title: Kitchen Assistant
Duration: Until August 2024
Rate of Pay: £12.36 Per Hour
Start Date: ASAP – Must be fully registered to start
Location: Newcastle
Hours: Temporary, minimum 20 hours per week. Additional hours will be required, generally to a maximum of 37 hours per week.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Cooking
To assist the cooking staff prepare, cook and serve meals, including:
• Washing, chopping and mixing food products as required
• Using a range of techniques to cook food
• Preparing tea, coffee and traybakes as required
• Ensuring that all food is stored appropriately
Serving
To serve food to customers, staff and guests as required, including:
• Serving food at meal times at the server
• Table service, as required
• Serving Centre visitors with tea, coffee and food as required
Cleaning
To thoroughly clean, as required and directed:
• Pots, pans and other kitchen utensils
• Kitchen, including floors, sinks, tables, surfaces, etc
• Dining area
• Kitchenette
• Coffee area
• Other areas as required
General
• Ensure all work is carried out in a safe manner
• Report all defects to the Head Cook
• Assist other staff with preparing orders from suppliers, in line with procurement policy
• Administer all paperwork and delivery notes as per defined procedures
• Maintain effective stock control at all times through rotation and date checks
• Other general duties to support the operation and general maintenance of the catering function as directed by line manager.
Essential Criteria:
Knowledge & Experience:
• Experience of working in a restaurant, school, hotel (or similar) kitchen
• Experience of working in a public facing environment
• Experience of working as part of a team
• Knowledge of good hygiene practices
Desirable Criteria
• Food Safety Hygiene Certificate
