Maintenance Operative – Student Accommodation
Location - Cardiff
On site 5 days per week
Salary - £30,000

The Role
As a Maintenance Operative, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the building is kept in excellent condition and all maintenance tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. You’ll handle a mix of planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance, working both independently and as part of a supportive on-site team.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out general maintenance tasks including basic plumbing, joinery, decorating, and electrical work
* Respond to reactive maintenance requests within agreed SLAs
* Conduct routine inspections and report defects or safety concerns
* Support planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules
* Maintain clean, safe plant rooms, workshops, and storage areas
* Ensure safe use and correct storage of tools and equipment
* Liaise with external contractors and engineers when required
* Assist with moves, furniture assembly, and room set-ups
* Provide support during site emergencies, including occasional out-of-hours responses
* Work in line with all health and safety regulations
About You
Essential:
* Previous experience in maintenance, facilities, or building services
* Strong understanding of general building maintenance (plumbing, painting, carpentry, etc.)
* Knowledge of health and safety standards
* Ability to prioritise workload and work both independently and in a team
* Excellent communication and a customer-focused approach
Desirable:
* Trade qualifications (City & Guilds, NVQ or similar)
* Experience in student accommodation, residential, or commercial settings
* Basic IT skills for maintenance systems or ticketing platforms
Additional Information
* Occasional evening or weekend work may be required
* Uniform and tools provided where needed
