This is not a standard cleaning role; it is a specialist position that plays a vital part in enabling world-class scientific research. The role involves working across both surface and underground facilities, maintaining exceptional standards of cleanliness and contamination control. You will be part of a wider operational team, working closely with Mitie colleagues, scientists, and contractors in a safety-critical, highly controlled environment. As a Cleanroom Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining cleanroom environments to strict contamination control standards. This includes carrying out both scheduled and reactive cleaning activities across laboratory spaces, supporting surface and underground operations, and following structured cleanroom procedures and protocols. You will be expected to identify and respond to cleaning, maintenance, and operational risks, while ensuring full compliance with health, safety, and site regulations at all times. We are looking for someone who brings more than just cleaning experience. The ideal candidate will take a proactive approach, showing initiative by identifying issues early, anticipating upcoming requirements, and preparing effectively for planned activities. You will be a strong team player who works collaboratively with colleagues, scientists, and contractors, communicates clearly and professionally, and contributes to a positive working environment. High attention to detail is essential for this role. You must consistently maintain high standards and understand the importance of precision within cleanroom and scientific settings. Pride in your work is equally important, with a strong sense of ownership, professionalism, and personal standards demonstrated in all tasks. The successful candidate will be willing to learn and develop, showing openness to training in cleanroom procedures and a genuine interest in working within a scientific environment. You should also have a strong safety mindset, operating with a safety-first approach, following risk assessments and site rules, and feeling confident to challenge unsafe behaviours in a regulated underground setting. Additional desirable attributes include the ability to follow structured processes and procedures, reliability and consistency, and flexibility to meet operational demands. The working environment is based at Boulby Mine and includes time spent underground in a controlled, safety-critical scientific setting. Full training and personal protective equipment will be provided. Joining Mitie offers a unique opportunity to work in an underground scientific facility as part of a professional and supportive operational team. You will benefit from specialist training and development, clear expectations, and the chance to contribute directly to the standards required for cutting-edge research. This role goes beyond traditional cleaning and offers the opportunity to be an integral part of a technical and scientific operation.
