Assistant Quantity Surveyor – Exciting Midlands Projects Our client is seeking an ambitious assistant quantity surveyor to join their growing team on projects across the East and West Midlands. This is a fantastic opportunity for an assistant quantity surveyor with at least 2 years’ experience to take their career to the next level, working directly with Senior Quantity Surveyors on a wide variety of exciting schemes. You’ll be part of a business delivering projects ranging from £2 million to £30 million, across a diverse portfolio including: * Educational facilities (schools, STEM labs, sixth-form centres) * Healthcare buildings (diagnostic centres, endoscopy units, integrated care hubs) * Custodial and defence projects (MoJ sites, prison blocks, police HQs) * Commercial and mixed-use developments (offices, retail, innovation hubs) Because some of these projects are on Ministry of Justice sites, security screening will be required. The Role: Assistant Quantity Surveyor As an assistant quantity surveyor, you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience while learning directly from senior colleagues. This role offers the perfect blend of responsibility and support, helping you build confidence in commercial management. Responsibilities of an Assistant Quantity Surveyor * Assist with preparing cost plans, budget estimates, and tender documents. * Carry out accurate quantity take-offs across a range of projects. * Support in assessing risks and exploring value engineering opportunities. * Contribute to interim valuations and final account preparation. * Assist in subcontractor and supplier procurement. * Monitor and report project costs to the Senior Quantity Surveyor. * Shadow and support Senior QSs in client and stakeholder meetings. * Help process variation orders and manage contract administration. * Assist in post-contract reviews and cost analysis. * Gain exposure to MoJ and security-cleared projects. * Ensure compliance with commercial processes and best practice. * Prepare clear and accurate financial documentation with guidance from the Senior QS. What We’re Looking For * At least 2 years’ experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or similar. * A strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes. * A keen eye for detail, with the confidence to take on responsibility. * Willingness to undergo security screening for certain projects. * Enthusiasm to work across a wide variety of project types and values.
