Electrical or Mechanical Maintenance Technicians – Leeds – £38.52/hr (Umbrella)
Location: Leeds
Rate: £38.52 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract length: 18 months
Shifts: Rotating Early & Late Shifts (2-week rotation) or Mixture of days/Nights 4 on 4 off, 5 on 5 off.
Join a dedicated team performing Heavy Maintenance on locomotives and coaches. This is a hands-on role focused on the servicing, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of traction and rolling stock, components, and equipment to defined specifications.
Purpose of the Role
To carry out servicing, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of traction and rolling stock, components, and equipment in accordance with technical specifications, safety regulations, and depot procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Work under the direction of the Team Leader and undertake tasks within your competence.
Perform exam work, with 90% of tasks focused on the exterior of locomotives/coaches including:
Underframe maintenance
Corrosion control
Brake systems
Wheelsets
Pneumatics, hydraulics, and electrical systems
Fault diagnosis and application of mechanical, electrical, vehicle building, and plumbing principles.
Carry out minor plant and equipment repairs.
Operate tools, instruments, and equipment safely and return them to storage.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Adhere to ISO9001, ISO14001, and OSH18001 quality and safety standards.
Sign off completed work and report outstanding tasks.
Support apprentices, trainees, and new starters with on-the-job guidance.
Perform welding, brazing, burning, patch painting, and air conditioning maintenance where competent.
Knowledge, Qualifications & Training
Level 3 Mechanical or Electrical qualification required.
Practical understanding of plumbing, vehicle building, mechanical and electrical systems.
Ability to read and interpret schematics (air, hydraulic, electrical).
Strong initiative and communication skills.
Willingness to undertake further competency training.
