The Environmental and Waste Advisor is responsible for monitoring and reporting on compliance with our Corporate and Divisional ISO 14001 management systems, waste obligations, contract requirements, and legislative obligations. This includes auditing and updating environmental and waste management systems.
The role will support the Group SHEQ Compliance and Integration Manager:
* To fulfill his role as the Technically Competent Manager (TCM) for Waste within Power Private, and deputies for him in his absence.
* To support and work on integrations and special projects within the business.
* To assist during external sector scheme and ISO audits.
The role also involves providing guidance and support to the wider SHEQ team and Operations team as required.
Principal Accountabilities:
* Monitor, review, and audit compliance with ISO 14001 management systems, contract requirements, and legislative obligations.
* Review and update environmental and waste management systems and controls.
* As a holder of a WAMITAB Level 4 Medium Risk Operators Certificate, review compliance with legislative obligations related to waste management as the TCM.
* Collaborate with the Group SHEQ Compliance and Integration Manager to develop and maintain internal audit plans.
* Support Divisional Heads of SHEQ and the Head of ESG with guidance and support.
* Lead interactions with external ISO certification bodies.
* Work with the Head of ESG on energy and carbon capture reports and action plans.
* Support investigations of environmental incidents and provide feedback.
* Assist the Bid team with tenders and work with Operations/Projects to implement environmental management systems and risk controls.
* Develop and deliver internal communications and training modules.
* Liaise with authorities regarding environmental licensing, permits, and incidents.
* Monitor and audit compliance with environmental management systems, identifying areas for improvement.
* Provide audit/review reports to the Group SHEQ Director highlighting weaknesses and best practices.
* Assist in preparing environmental reports and case studies.
* Utilize carbon accounting tools to monitor emissions.
* Support energy audits.
About You
Qualifications & Professional Memberships:
* WAMITAB Level 2 or above in Waste Management (preferred).
* ISO 14001 Lead or Internal Auditor qualification.
* IOSH Managing Safely and/or NEBOSH Certificate.
* IEMA membership or working towards it (preferred).
* ILM Level 5 in Operations/Departmental Management or equivalent.
* Full UK Driving Licence.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Skills & Personal Qualities:
* Strong background in Environmental and Waste Management, with experience in utilities or construction sectors (highly desirable).
* Experience managing environmental audits and investigations.
* Knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 9001 standards.
* Ability to develop and maintain environmental management systems.
* Strong stakeholder management skills.
* Risk identification and project support capabilities.
* Passionate about environmental performance.

* Excellent communicator, influential across all levels.
