The Position: The chosen candidate will perform a pivotal role in electrification projects within Williams Grand Prix Technologies. By employing methodologies and expertise from motorsport and Formula 1, WGPT presents a unique opportunity to work with ground-breaking technologies in several areas including Aerospace, Motorsport, Marine, Industrial and Off Highway. This role will bring significant experience in battery system supervisory control, certification, and integration with a keen focus on safe operation, pack management, and interfacing with external systems. Experience in serial communications, data acquisition, and storage will also be critical. Responsibilities: Owning the development, testing and release of safety critical software adhering to appropriate industrial standards and customer requirements. In particular, the requirements for certification (REG.100, UN38.3 as well as relevant marine, aerospace, or industry standards). Responsible for the definition and implementation of power distribution, switching, and HV control strategies. Ownership, design, and execution of the software verification and validation plan to ensure that all requirements are met. Lead the integration and delivery of high-quality software into a variety of embedded systems, supporting commissioning activities where required. The management of external interfaces and integration of systems at both software and hardware levels. Data acquisition, handling, transmittal, and storage. Author appropriate control system documentation and support the creation of hazard analysis and DFMEA for components and systems as required. Support the programme team with project and technical reviews so that project milestones are successfully progressed. Represent WGPT in customer and supplier interactions. Demonstrable experience within the field of supervisory control and battery management systems for HV battery systems through all parts of the design lifecycle. Proven experience of successfully delivering supervisory control software to appropriate industry standards and certification and integrating with external systems. Expertise in communication protocols (e.g. CAN), data acquisition and supervisory control strategies. A strong understanding of electrical integration (including contactor switching strategies, fusing, thermal management) will be required to excel at this role. Highly experienced developing model-based control software in MATLAB and Simulink. Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a focus on driving innovation within high-performance applications. Team player, able to work effectively at all levels of an organisation with the ability to influence others to move toward alignment. Able to work autonomously, driving decision and influencing change in a dynamic ‘start up’ environment. Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritise competing demands and drive results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Ability to adapt to changes quickly, capable to pivot and focus on competing initiatives, as well as manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Requirements : Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical, Computer Science, Control engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with state-of-the-art supervisory control concepts and battery management strategies. Experience developing machine learning based monitoring and control algorithms would be beneficial. Knowledge of safety and certification standards associated with multiple industries (e.g. ISO 26262, IEC 61508, IEC 62619, DO-178C). Working knowledge of version control tools (e.g. GIT), CI/CD toolchains, and best practices for software development. Experience developing HMI panels for battery systems. Proficient in the development and use of MIL/SIL/HIL testing. Experience working in a variety of high-performance markets and industries; such as motorsports, automotive, aerospace, or other dynamic environments.
