We are looking for a Band 5 Staff Nurse/ODP to work in Tower and Nuffield Theatres, recovery, admissions/ambulatory/ discharge lounges. The post holder is responsible for assessment of the perioperative care needs of patients, planning programmes of care, implementation and evaluation without direct supervision.
At times they will have management responsibility for being in-charge of the ward and supervising junior members of staff and students. The post holder will be a key member in relation to the development of practice in theatres.
They will be working independently/autonomously and at times without direct supervision, accountable for their own professional actions. Ensuring the safety and well being of services users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centred care principles.

Main duties of the job
1. Admit surgical patients
2. Scrub/Circulate in operating theatres
3. Recovery post operative patients
4. There is an expectation that staff we be part of an internal rotation program to enable multiskilled working.
5. Work with multi-disciplinary in ambulatory care post-operative lounge
6. Co-ordinate theatre lists and departmental duties
7. Support Trust initiatives/ Quality Improvement and Audit
8. Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals.
9. Carry out those activities necessary to conduct a comprehensive assessment of a person’s nursing requirements.
10. Will ensure that all patients will have a discharge plan that is safe and appropriate for their needs.
11. Carry out nursing procedures and treatments, checking on and maintaining the highest possible standards.
12. Take a clear and concise history from patients by assessing their health and well being and complete documentation ensuring that all entries are accurate and legible and that all information systems are maintained.
13. Undertake prescribed physical observations as follows: blood pressure, temperature, respirations, blood sugars, urinalysis, weight and height, and report exceptions appropriates.
14. Responsible for the correct administration of prescribed medication including transfusion of blood and blood products

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
15. The post holder will work closely with the senior staff and multidisciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining excellent clinical standards of clinical practice and staff development as part of the theatre team.
16. As a member of the theatre team perform the tasks of scrub assistant following all checks and procedures as laid down in National / Theatre Policy.
17. As a member of the theatre team perform the tasks of scrub and anaesthetic assistant and support other members of the multidisciplinary team.
18. To be responsible for the continuing professional development and overall performance of all staff by acting as a mentor with the support of their senior colleagues.
19. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant documentation without direct supervision and is required to demonstrate procedures in place to support safe patient care
20. To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified as appropriate to knowledge and training.

Education/Qualification
Essential criteria
21. Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner on the NMC/ HCPC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality
