About the role
Benefact Group are looking for a Controls Manager to join our Gloucester office on a fixed-term basis until 31/03/2027.
You will provide controls subject‑matter expertise to the Benefact Group’s Controls Project, ensuring a rigorous and compliant approach that will enable us to meet the revisions in Corporate Governance Code requirements for control disclosures. This project is also supporting enhancements to the overall maturity and effectiveness of the Group’s control environment, with a key focus on the Insurance Division and the controls that are material at a Groupwide level.

What you'll be doing
· Provide subject‑matter expertise and coaching to support first‑line control-owners in identifying, documenting, assessing, and assuring Key and Material Controls, including identifying gaps and defining mitigation plans.
· Maintain and enhance the Control Library, ensuring control design adequacy, operational effectiveness, and robust first‑line assurance activity.
· Ensure all control documentation meets internal policy standards, is audit‑ready, and produce clear reporting and progress updates for senior management.
· Align project control expectations with business Risk Registers and integrate Key Controls work into the annual RCSA process for smooth transition into BAU.
· Actively contribute to the project working group, preparing updates and collaborating with stakeholders to progress assigned activities.
What you'll need to have
· Solid experience and understanding of control design and operation, preferably in an insurance / financial services environment
· Experience of control documentation and testing
· Good coaching approach that allows for effective consulting and advising of first-line control owners on definition, documentation, assessment and testing of key controls
· Good attention to detail with strong analytical skills, and ability to analyse data to form judgements and conclusions through reporting
· Good experience in the development of tools using M365 applications, especially Excel or SharePoint data
