The Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC) is seeking to appoint a proactive, friendly Technician to support practical teaching. You will be part of a dedicated team ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our teaching laboratories. You will provide hands-on, technical assistance for LEC’s teaching laboratories. There are two equivalent roles advertised.
The role is based in the teaching laboratories in LEC but may involve some fieldwork support.
You will:
1. Check and prepare equipment, labware and chemical solutions required in practical sessions.
2. Lead by example through consistently adhering to excellent laboratory practices.
3. Work collegiately and proactively under instruction to facilitate the smooth running of the laboratories.
4. Assist with the preparation of field equipment and sample collection.
5. Contribute to other teaching, outreach and student recruitment activities.
About you
To be a suitable candidate for this role you will have:
6. Qualifications or experience equivalent to level 3 in a scientific discipline or practical experience in a science laboratory.
7. Experience of working successfully in a team to support others, coordinate effort and complete tasks effectively.
8. The ability to accurately follow written and verbal instructions.
9. The ability to prioritise and organise your work and resources to planned timescales.
10. A desire to work in an inclusive and diverse environment.

Contract and contact
This post is offered on a full-time (36.5 hours per week) in term-time only (3 x 10 weeks) plus four weeks (to be worked around the term dates) on an indefinite basis on campus with a salary over the year of 0.65 Full Time Equivalent Equivalent (FTE).
