Upper GI Cancer Care Coordinator / Pathway Navigator

We are looking to recruit a highly organised and compassionate cancer care coordinator to support patients diagnosed with Upper GI and HPB (Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary) cancers within the Upper GI Cancer Nurse Specialist Team.
The post holder will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure timely progression of patients through their pathway, improve patient experience, and support delivery of national cancer waiting time standards.
The post holder will possess excellent communication, interpersonal, problem‑solving skills and the ability to work sensitively and collaboratively with diverse teams. Previous experience in a cancer service is desirable, but not essential.
Main duties of the job
* Act as a first point of contact for patients, carers and other healthcare professionals
* Coordinate patient pathways across diagnostics, treatment and follow‑up
* Be responsible for tracking patients against national cancer targets (e.g. Faster Diagnosis Standard) and ensure they progress through their pathways.
* Provide administrative support to Upper GI cancer nurse specialists, including appointment bookings, completing referrals and liaising wider MDT members in the region.
* Ensure accurate and timely sharing of patient information across services
* Facilitate personalised care and support planning conversations, signpost to appropriate services and arrange onward referrals
* Maintain accurate patient records and data systems

Person Specification
To be successful in this role you will need:
Experience
* Experience of working in administrative roles for clinical teams, or in customer/patient‑focused roles
* Experience working in a hospital/NHS environment
* Experience of supporting staff or coordinating team activities
* Experience working within a cancer service
* Experience with Trust IT systems including EPR, System One, PPM
Skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels and in difficult circumstances
* Strong organisational and time‑management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure
* Ability to work using own initiative and problem‑solving skills without supervision
* Willingness to learn, be flexible, adapt to changes and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Ability to react effectively, responsibly and timely to various demands at a time
* Ability to collect complex information and document with accuracy and attention to detail
* Ability to manage highly emotive and distressing situations with professionalism and compassion
* Ability to manage a low‑risk, routine caseload of patients and plan own workload

Knowledge
* Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
* Knowledge of national cancer targets and issues pertinent to NHS cancer service
* Knowledge of relevant cancer pathways, treatments and interventions
Qualifications
* HNC or NVQ level 3 in health or social care, or equivalent experience
* Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office
* Good standard of education equivalent to Maths and English GCSE at Grade C or above
* Customer service or administrative training

Salary: £28,392 to £31,157 per annum (pro rata)
