Paddock Farm is home to a herd of grass fed Hereford cattle, a herd of Tamworth pigs, a flock of free-range chickens. The farm is part of a wider business supplying high quality meat and eggs to our retail and wholesale butchery.
Our cattle are 100% grass-fed, rotating across permanent pasture and herbal leys using Adaptive Multi Paddock (AMP) grazing to finish high quality carcasses. Our cattle are certified grass-fed by Pasture for Life.
Our herd of Tamworth pigs is run outside all summer on an extensive paddock-based system. The genetic base for our pigs is Tamworth (the basis for our brand) and we also produce some Gloucester Old Spot crosses. Our aim is to produce very high quality carcasses in a high welfare system.
All the produce from our farm goes directly to our butchery where we direct sell through our retail space and also direct to quality restaurants. We're proud to be taking an agroecological approach to our farming system and aim to produce high quality meat whilst also stewarding the environment.
Job description:
We're looking for a stock person to work across multiple enterprises, attending to the daily and seasonal requirements of our livestock.
The role involves:
· Moving, feeding and attending to cattle, pigs and chickens
· Setting up and moving portable electric fencing and water infrastructure
· Daily livestock stewardship including medication administration where necessary
· Cleaning and routine maintenance of farm machinery and equipment
· Attending livestock guardian dogs
· Contributing to seasonal requirements on the farm: calving, bale carting, muck moving, livestock turn-out etc
· Assisting on other farm activities where required
The right candidate will have:
· Experience of handling livestock
· Willingness to learn new skills
· Ability to operate farm machinery
The role is diverse and changes throughout the year. During the grazing season (March-November) the role will require attending to cattle, pigs and chickens out on pasture. There will be daily moves of cattle, and daily feeding of pigs and chickens, along with their electric fencing and drinking troughs. During the winter much of the livestock is housed so there is more yard work.
We have good handling facilities and modern, well-maintained machinery and equipment. We're constantly aiming to improve our agroecological farming system, working to produce high quality products for distribution though our butchery business. It's a unique opportunity to work as part of a farm team with a direct link to our butchery.
