Older People’s Medicine (OPM) provides healthcare for patients who are assessed as frail. Some of the key care pathways within OPM include management of hip fractures, dementia care, end‑of‑life care, and treatment of acute and long‑term conditions.
Recruitment Day
The recruitment day will consist of: Start at 14:00 and finish at 17:00 (timings may vary), NNUH Training Centre (next to Busy Bees Nursery), Top floor.
 * 14:00 – 14:30: Introduction to the role of an HCA
 * 14:30 – 17:00: Basic Numeracy and Literacy Assessment & Interview

Role Responsibilities
Your role as a Healthcare Support Worker will be to provide and deliver a high standard of individualised personal care to each patient working as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary approach. This includes assisting with personal care, nutrition, wound care, mobility, and infection control, as well as monitoring and recording vital signs, supporting patients with toileting and hygiene needs, and maintaining accurate documentation.
In completion of the nationally recognised care certificate qualification, you will develop knowledge and skills that will allow you to be able to safely and accurately deliver effective patient care under the direction of the registered nurse. With ongoing training, you will learn to accurately document the care you provide and recognise when a patient’s condition changes, escalating concerns appropriately while maintaining patient confidentiality. Your skills and competencies will be developed through a structured 52‑week development pathway designed to support you in fulfilling your role.
Qualifications & Eligibility
Please note that this advertised position, which is part of occupation code 6131, meets the UKVI eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa. The Trust would be able to issue a Certificate of Sponsorship for this role.
 * You must work a minimum of 36 hours per week and must be placed at the top of the agenda for change. Band 3 pay point meets the current Home Office UKVI policy regarding salary threshold requirements.
Career Advancement
There are many exciting opportunities to develop personally and professionally. Some of our Healthcare Support Workers can apply to join the Trainee Nursing Associate (TNA) programme. This is a two‑year course, resulting in Nursing Associate registration and making you eligible to train as a Registered Nurse via a shortened nursing degree or Registered Nurse degree apprenticeship (RNDA). The TNA course acts as a stepping stone to becoming a nurse, and as a teaching hospital we are proud to offer this opportunity to our Healthcare Support Workers. As a Healthcare Support Worker you will be supported through your Care Certificate Programme, requiring completion of set standards, with help from our dedicated Medical Clinical Educator and Practice Development teams. Upon completion of the certificate, you also can work additional bank shifts in alternative areas of interest. This will enable you gain further experience across specialties.
