Decarbonisation Programme Manager

Job description

Contract: Permanant

Hours: 37 Hours

Workstyle: Your workstyle will be a mobile hybrid worker in this role which gives you the flexibility to work from home and from a variety of Council workplaces.

About the role:

We are currently seeking an experienced individual with extensive local authority background operating at high grade (10 or above) to join our team as the Decarbonisation Programme Manager. You will be part of a newly formed section in 2024 called DECC $ú Decarbonisation, Energy & Climate Change. Whilst we are a new section we bring a wealth of experience in helping reduce carbon emissions and energy costs across the council. The key activity for this role will be implementing the Decarbonisation delivery and action plan to help the council reach net zero by 2030 by working across the whole council.

As the Decarbonisation Programme Manager, you will lead the delivery of the decarbonisation delivery plan related to council operational activities and will be responsible for the successful delivery of the action plan and delivery plan to ensure that the outputs, outcomes and impacts are clearly defined and achieved within the agreed time, cost and quality constraints. The Programme Manager has a key role in programme governance and working with internal stakeholders, to ensure the agreed objectives are delivered to enable benefits to be realised.

Your daily routine will involve:

1. Working across directorates and sections to support them in undertaking projects outlined in the action plan to help the council reach net zero
2. Organising and chairing programme board meetings to gather updates and record progress on ongoing projects. Arranging regular meetings with sections to monitor progress and provide reports to senior management, and relevant boards
3. Liaise with staff and members to ensure that everyone is fully briefed on the decarbonisation delivery plan
4. Identify suitable sources of funding to support the action plan and make staff aware of these opportunities
5. Develop and manage complex internal and external relationships with a wide range of senior managers and services to ensure strategic objectives are met and priorities are aligned.
6. Be involved in a variety of different areas of work or projects at any one time and in different parts of the organisation in support of implementing the decarbonisation delivery plan

About you:

Do you have:

7. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to use persuasive evidence based arguments to get key points across to a diverse audience
8. Extensive experience of working in a similar role within a local authority, at a similar grade
9. Knowledge and expertise relating to renewable technologies in support of reaching net zero
10. There are no formal qualifications required for this role, as full training will be provided
