We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Pharmacist for Medicines Governance to join our Pharmacy Services team within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a strategic leadership role in medicines governance, making a direct impact on patient safety and care quality across a variety of healthcare settings. Youll work in a supportive and forward-thinking environment where your expertise will be key in supporting safe, effective, and person-centred care and assuring robust medicines governance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide expert professional advice to senior management teams across designated sectors, embedding medicines governance priorities into wider governance and service improvement workplans.
2. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across NHSGGC to manage risks related to medicines use and lead quality improvement initiatives.
3. Support the delivery and ongoing curation of a wide ranging Safer Use of Medicines work programme, including professional support of Sector Safer Use of Medicines Committee(s) and other key governance groups.
4. Support learning from medication-related incidents and significant adverse event reviews (SARs) to drive safer practices and continuous improvement. Actively support the NHSGGC SAER Quality Assurance process.
5. Lead on the development, implementation, and review of clinical guidelines and policies (including the Board-wide Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines Policy), ensuring medicines are used safely, effectively, and cost-efficiently.
6. Deliver and evaluate specialist education and training for pharmacy and wider clinical staff on medication safety and governance.
7. Actively undertake and support research, quality improvement and service evaluation to inform best practice and innovation in medication safety.
8. Act as a Board wide lead on Medication Safety and contribute to GGC and national medication safety work programmes and strategies.
9. Support and deliver a clinical pharmacy service within a defined area.
About You:
We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic, forward-thinking pharmacist with:
10. A Masters of Pharmacy degree
11. Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
12. Extensive post-registration experience in clinical pharmacy/leadership and/or governance roles
13. Proven ability to initiate and lead service development /quality improvement and support strategic planning
14. Strong collaborative skills and extensive experience working within multidisciplinary teams
15. Advanced clinical reasoning and judgment skills
16. First class communication skills
17. A passion for improving systems, outcomes, and safety in medicines use
