As the Director of Environmental and Planning, you will hold a dual-mandate executive role. You are the architect of the division’s strategic growth and the guardian of its technical excellence. You will provide overall business unit leadership, driving market expansion while ensuring that our Environmental and Planning teams are seamlessly integrated with our wider engineering disciplines to deliver world-class infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Develop and execute long-term plans for the Environmental and Planning divisions to ensure JOD remains at the forefront of the Irish and international markets. Have regard to and contribute to JOD’s Strategy and its on-going review and /or development Identify emerging sectors and secure large-scale framework agreements with key utilities and developers. Shape industry discourse and maintain high-level links with relevant regulatory bodies e.g. An Comisiun Pleanala, the Irish Planning Institute (IPI), Engineer’s Ireland Take full financial responsibility for the business unit, ensuring robust performance, accurate forecasting, and operational excellence. Oversee all business and technical risks, ensuring that complex Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIAR) and planning strategies meet the highest legal and technical standards. Interface with other divisions within JOD as may be required so as to obtain technical support and so as to support them in carrying out their functions Lead executive-level relations and negotiations with major accounts and strategic partners. Oversee recruitment, retention, and the career progression framework for all environmental and planning staff. Lead by example, exemplifying "Authoritative-level" competence and fostering a culture of mentorship and continuous learning. Key Requirements A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in environmental and planning consultancy, with a significant track record at a senior leadership level. A Level 8 Honours Degree in Environmental Science, Planning, or a related field (Level 9 Master’s Degree preferred). Chartered status with a recognised professional body (e.g., IPI, MRTPI, IEMA, CIWEM, etc.). Extensive knowledge of the Irish and/or UK planning systems, EU environmental directives, and the delivery of infrastructure projects. Proven ability to manage large, multidisciplinary teams and navigate complex stakeholder environments. Why Join JOD?
