**Job Description**
The Environment Agency is fully committed to having an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We actively seek, embrace, and live diversity for the benefit of our staff, communities, and environment.
This role offers an opportunity to utilize your analytical skills to improve our environment and support circular economy initiatives through a new Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) for plastic bottles and cans. The introduction of the DRS marks a significant step towards ending the throwaway society and cleaning up Britain.
You will lead data analytics efforts to support the implementation and development of the DRS regime. Your work will ensure that data collected is robust, accurate, and effectively used to assess fraud risk, monitor compliance, and inform policy decisions.
By leveraging data, you can help streamline collection processes, reduce waste, and promote the circular economy by transforming discarded items into valuable resources.
You will collaborate with colleagues across the Environment Agency, Defra, devolved administrations, and industry stakeholders to translate policy into operational systems. Your role involves analyzing data to identify patterns, monitor trends, and ensure the scheme functions as intended.
Your responsibilities include developing dashboards, reports, and models to support enforcement and monitoring efforts, which involves:
* Collaborating with policy, digital, and regulatory teams to develop the DRS digital infrastructure and maintain data quality.
* Providing expert insights to inform decision-making within the Environment Agency and with government partners.
* Helping to define and improve data governance and reporting standards for the scheme.
You will also develop a thorough understanding of the DRS regime and explore other producer responsibility schemes.
**The Team**
We promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture where everyone feels valued. Our team uses evidence, expertise, engagement, and innovation to enhance delivery, influence policy, and secure resources.
You will join our Producer Responsibility Team, which leads waste regulation reforms to help conserve resources and minimize waste.
**Experience/Skills Required**
In your responses, please demonstrate your ability to:
* Work effectively with diverse backgrounds and encourage diversity in your work.
* Manage data and information with attention to detail.
* Communicate clearly, translating data into plain English to influence outcomes.
* Build trust and respectful relationships with stakeholders.
Additional desirable skills include:
* Proficiency in R or Python for data analysis.
* Experience working in agile environments with digital systems.
Development opportunities and training will be provided.
