Building InspectorPay Rate: £55 per hour PAYE | £70 Umbrella rate (inside IR35)6-Month Temporary Contract | Berkshire-Based Local AuthorityWe’re currently working with a Berkshire-based Local Authority seeking an experienced Building Inspector to join their Building Control team on a 6-month temporary contract.This role requires a confident professional who can work independently, manage their own caseload, and provide expert advice across a range of regulatory and technical areas. You’ll need to be proactive, responsive, and capable of dealing with everything from routine site inspections to dangerous structures and Building Act enforcement.Key Responsibilities:
* Assess and check Building Regulations applications.
* Conduct site inspections, maintaining accurate and detailed records.
* Assist with dangerous structures during and outside of normal working hours.
* Validate and raise fees in line with submitted applications.
* Draft formal correspondence for contraventions, court statements, and attend legal proceedings where required.
* Oversee demolition works in line with Building Act 1984 and Council policy.
* Manage aged applications and issue ‘plans of no effect’ where appropriate.
* Inspect and correspond on applications for Building Regulation relaxations/dispensations.
* Provide input on means of escape/fire safety provisions.
* Make recommendations for application approvals or rejections under delegated powers.
Person Specification:
* Registered or working towards Class 2/3 BSR registration.
* Demonstrable Local Authority Building Control experience.
* Sound understanding of Building Regulations, the Building Safety Act, and Health & Safety legislation.
* Confident managing individual and team workloads to meet statutory deadlines.
* Ability to provide technical guidance to stakeholders, maintain CPD, and uphold regulatory standards.
* Full UK driving licence required.
