Trainee Surgical Care Practitioner - Urology

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a trainee Surgical Care Practitioner to join a friendly and dynamic team within the Urology department.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual with significant acute care/surgical experience to commence training as a surgical care practitioner under the supervision of a Consultant Urologist. The role will involve providing patient‑centred, quality care in a busy tertiary centre at Castle Hill Hospital, staffed by 7 consultants, 6 specialist registrars, core and Foundation doctors, and 8 specialist nurses. The department offers a comprehensive urology service, including specialist cancer surgery, day procedures and robotic surgery on the Da Vinci Xi platforms.
Main duties of the job
Supported by the Trust, you will develop your knowledge and skills in the management of a wide array of urological and medical presentations, and develop a high level of autonomy. You will also be required and supported to complete an MSc in Surgical Care Practice at Edge Hill University. Upon successful completion of the training programme as a Qualified SCP, you will progress to AFC Band 8a.

Education / Qualifications
* NMC or HCPC registrant
* Possession of a first degree with a minimum 2:2 classification
* Evidence of continuing education
* Basic Surgical Skills certificate
* Leadership qualification
* Surgical First Assistant qualification
* Teaching qualification
Application completion
* Completion of application including all essential qualifications (including GCSE, undergraduate and postgraduate evidence)
Knowledge, training & experience
* Evidence of post‑qualification experience in urology or theatre setting
* Demonstrate an understanding of current developments within Urology
* Evidence of recent teaching, mentorship and supervision of staff
* Knowledge of clinical governance and risk assessment/management
* Ability to maintain intense concentration for long periods
* Ability to withstand long periods of standing, bending and exposure to blood and body fluids
* Excellent organisational and time‑management skills, able to prioritise
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Evidence of involvement in change management and audit experience
* Computer skills for radiology, pathology, microbiology ordering as per Trust protocols, utilisation of patient systems
* Able to develop protocols and guidelines
Communication and interpersonal skills
* Effective communication both written and verbal
* Works under own initiative with strong organisational skills and can work to deadlines
* Excellent leadership skills
* Ability to make judgements involving complex facts
* Evidence of presentation skills
Special attributes and other requirements
* Demonstrates enthusiasm for the SCP role
* Willingness to undertake the SCP MSc programme at Edge Hill University
* Flexibility over working hours/days of the week
* Willing to travel between hospital sites as required
