Overview

Trainee Environmental Health Practitioner (Housing) Ref: CH06425

Salary: National Living Wage currently £12.21 per hour (over 21s). Hours: 37 hours per week. Term: 2 fixed positions for up to 24 months.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Housing Standards & Improvement Team for two enthusiastic and talented students to work in our friendly Housing team. The post holders will have the opportunity to undertake a wide range of learning and practical experience. This is intended to assist the successful applicants in meeting the housing (and possibly all of the) elements of either the Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP) or the Chartered Practitioners Programme (CPP) routes.


About the team

The team deals with all aspects of Private Sector Housing, including minimum standards in rented accommodation, Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO), Energy Efficiency and Empty Homes, Disabled Facilities Grants as well as public health matters. However, this role will focus mainly on inspecting, licensing and enforcing standards in HMOs within and outside of an Additional Licensing area.

* Have completed a “BSc or MSc course accredited with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH)”


What will the role involve?

The work will be varied and will involve joint visits with officers and others to help improve the lives of our residents through helping them tackle issues including (but not limited to):

* Housing disrepair
* HMO (mandatory & additional) licensing
* Compliance with Electrical Safety Regulations and Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES)
* Smoke & Carbon monoxide Regulations
* Supporting the work of home energy efficiency team

Work arrangement

This post is based primarily on working (and travelling to visits) from home, although there may be opportunities to work from the office, particularly where this links with the preparation of enforcement notices.
