We have an excellent and exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and suitably experienced ODP to join the Critical Care department at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on a 12 month secondment.
We are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic, committed and aspirational people who want to do a good job and fulfil their own personal objectives and goals and make a difference to patients and the staff alike.
You will be expected to participate in the on call out of hours rota, cross site working as per patient need and must be able to facilitate your own travel whilst on call and out of hours in particular.
Main duties of the job
1. To undertake and support the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of specific programmes of patient care, ensuring patient dignity and confidentiality is always maintained.
2. Assist with care and monitoring of critically ill patients
3. Attend MDT handover and safety huddles
4. Set up, calibrate and monitor complex equipment (ventilators, haemodynamic monitors)
5. Supporting the medical team and nursing staff during clincial procedures (intubations, bronchoscopies, percutaneous tracheostomy, line insertion)

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for the maximum period of 12 months. Where there is potential, the secondment/fixed term contract may finish early, or in the first instance, the secondment/fixed term contract may be extended due to the internal/external secondment of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and secondments in relation to the substantive post holder.
Please also note any secondment must first be agreed with your current line manager.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
6. City & Guilds 752 / NVQ Level 3 / Diploma in Operating Department Practice or RGN with appropriate anaesthetic qualification
7. To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
8. HCPC/NMC registered
Desirable criteria
9. Advanced Life Support or similar
10. Health related degree
11. Postgraduate Certificate
Experience
Essential criteria
12. Extensive post registration experience in Operating Services or within a speciality
Desirable criteria
13. Experience in other Critical Care environments
14. Experience of intra and inter hospital transfers
Interpersonal and IT Skills
Essential criteria
15. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with patients’ families and colleagues
16. Ability to demonstrate empathy and compassion in patient care
17. Maintain a calm, professional manner when dealing with emotional or sensitive situations
18. Work well within a team and support colleagues with emotional or sensitive situations
19. IT skills e.g. conversant with Microsoft packages including Word, Excel, Access etc

20. Be able to commit to on-call duties according to Trust policy.
