Title: Training Coordinator Department: Medical Support Classification : Non-Exempt Reporting structure: ER/ICU Medical Support Supervisor Additional information: This position is a split role between floor and training responsibilities. Please refer to the floor duties and necessary skills as outlined by ER/ICU RVT/VMA job description. Job Summary The Training Coordinator is responsible for the development and presentation of medical support team training material in one-on-one, small group and large group settings. This role also provides feedback on the training progress of medical support team members and provides input to help identify training needs of the medical support team. This position works closely with the leadership to provide the medical support team with the ongoing guidance, motivation and support needed to enable their success and growth during their initial and continuous training periods. This role is a split role between VMA/RVT floor and training duties. Administrative Duties Under the direction of and in collaboration with management, create or modify medical support training programs to meet the needs of employees in the advancement and improvement of their job skills including: A comprehensive onboarding program Classroom and skills lab-based learning activities Comprehensive training documentation Requirements and assessments for training phase/program entry and completion Semi-annual/annual training (CPR, radiology safety, controlled substances, etc.) Training methodology for other trainers/floor leads Develop or obtain various forms of training material (manuals, guides, checklists, presentations, handouts, etc.) for onboarding, orientation, and skills and knowledge training Create a master list of all training related documentation Present or arrange for the presentation of training program materials using various forms and formats including one-on-one floor and classroom training, group classes/discussion, skills labs, simulations, and visual materials Maintain records of training activities, attendance, results of tests and assessments, and retraining requirements and provide updates to management on employee progress towards training goals Develop documentation for the communication of goals and progress with anyone serving as a trainer for a new employee In conjunction with MSS, conduct working interviews for medical support staff candidates and provide feedback and recommendations for job candidate placement Manage Dove membership and assign videos to staff members as needed to accomplish training goals Training Duties Work directly on the floor with employees in development 1-2 days per week to provide one-on-one training, in the moment guidance, support the completion of individual or team training goals and assessment of individual and team training needs Work 2 regular scheduled floor shift in ER or ICU per week (see below for floor shift duties) Floor Duties Provide nursing care to critically ill hospitalized patients in conjunction with specialty and emergency veterinarians Participate in nurse rounds Triage incoming patients presenting on emergency Assess patient stability and obtain patient vital signs Perform diagnostics and treatments of emergency and hospitalized patients Perform hourly patient assessment and monitoring Observe patients and recognize changes in status Place peripheral and central catheters Restrain patients for exams and treatments Set up and administer IV and SQ fluids Maintain urinary catheters Bandage removal and application Perform suture and drain removal Perform drug dose calculations for injectable medications and CRIs Administer injectable medications (IV, IM, SQ) Administer other medications (PO, OU, OD) Maintain isolation protocols for infectious patients Basic wound cleaning and care Administer injectable and inhalant anesthesia Monitor patients while under anesthesia and maintain a monitoring log Monitor patients during recovery from anesthesia Obtain samples for and perform in house laboratory testing Assist in CPR General Duties Maintain knowledge of the latest trends in training and development Identify and bring to the attention of the MSS, any issues or concerns in the training process that require attention and assist in the development of solutions Meet regularly with DHR and MSS to review current staff training and CE Serve as a resource for medical support staff for hospital policies and procedures Promote positive team culture Promote respect between all members of the team and clinician. Promote an atmosphere that supports input and feedback from all team members Competencies Written and verbal communication proficiency Process management Technical capacity Problem solving and analysis Teamwork Flexibility Initiative Supervisory Responsibility This position has no HR supervisory responsibilities. Work Environment This job operates in a veterinary healthcare environment that performs in- and out-patient procedures as well as provides hospitalization care for small companion animals. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, as well as specialized veterinary medical equipment including anesthesia machines, radiology machines, ultrasound, CT, oxygen therapy units, and IV fluid pumps. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position in a healthcare facility which is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required. Required Education and Experience Graduation from high school or GED equivalent 5 years of work experience as an Emergency/Specialty veterinary technician/assistant Preferred Education and Experience 1 years of leadership or staff education experience Associates degree in Veterinary Technology Current RVT in NC
