Hybrid working (circa 2 3 days per month onsite) - (on site element can be done from Frimley, Filton (Bristol), Weymouth, Barrow) £62.56 per hour umbrella / £54.30 per hour PAYE (Inside IR35) 12 month contract The Principal Engineer Product Safety shall provide support to the Engineering Delivery Manager in the development, delivery and maintenance of the Project Product Safety Management System and Product Safety Case to ensure Products are safe to own and legal to operate. You will provide Product and Functional Safety support to the Consultant Engineer Safety Engineering/Engineering Delivery Manager in the development and delivery of Design Safety Justifications (DSJs) and supporting Safety Analyses for the Dreadnought Combat System. Core Duties: The Principal Engineer - Safety Engineering shall provide SQEP support and input into the following: Construction and development of the DSJs ( Design Safety Justifications) The derivation and management of Product Safety and Functional Safety Requirement The development, implementation and maintenance of the Safety Management System and updates of the Safety Management Plans Product Safety and Functional Safety hazard and risk identification, management and assessment activities The construction and delivery of the Design Safety Justifications for the Dreadnought Combat System Interface with the Safety and Engineering expertise across BAE Systems and with other key stakeholders Safety Engineering advice to Customers (internal and external), design changes, hazards and undertake safety analysis and assessment as required Safety Committees Key Accountabilities: Safety Management System development and maintenance including Process updates. Production of Safety Management Plans. Hazard identification and management. Risk assessment. Product Safety case production. Technical report writing. Subject Knowledge and Qualifications: Must be conversant with Def Stan 00-056 and 00-055 Must be conversant with IEC 61508 or similar standards Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) Degree or equivalent qualification. Professional chartership or working towards. Demonstrable knowledge of design, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning and testing submarines lifecycle phases. MS Office proficient Word, Excel etc. Awareness of the challenges posed by the environment that the product will be exposed to. The ability to analyse complex problems and identify the most critical issues. Ability to interpret technical data and produce clear, logical and robust safety arguments.
