Senior Sister / Charge Nurse, Respiratory
Ward 15
Band 7 - £46,148 - £52,809 per annum
Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, innovative, and motivated ward manager to join our respiratory team.
We are seeking someone with experience and passion in respiratory nursing, capable of providing clinical management and leadership, and committed to developing and maintaining best practices. The successful candidate will engage with trust initiatives and the Nursing, Midwifery, and Therapies strategy, supporting staff in driving these initiatives forward.
Ward 15 is a 29-bed male respiratory ward supporting patients with various respiratory conditions, including those requiring NIV or tracheostomy care.

Main duties of the job
1. Lead and coordinate the nursing team, acting as a professional role model.
2. Manage and organize the ward/department within available resources.
3. Ensure the delivery of excellent nursing care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
4. Assess and improve current practices to enhance quality of care.
5. Maintain high standards of patient care, prioritizing quality and compassion.
6. Develop the Ward nursing philosophy aligned with the Trust's and division's care philosophies, ensuring policy implementation and practice development.
7. Manage resources efficiently, meet contractual obligations, and achieve national standards and targets.
8. Proactively address complaints, investigating and responding according to trust policies.
9. Address clinical governance issues within the ward.

Job responsibilities
1. Act as a credible, strong, and visible role model, maintaining regular contact with patients, carers, and staff.
2. Provide clinical leadership, demonstrating best practices and engaging with the MDT to observe and improve care standards.
3. Ensure proper storage, checking, and administration of medicines following standards and policies.
4. Promote innovative, collaborative practices within the nursing and multidisciplinary teams, involving external agencies when appropriate.
5. Represent the ward at meetings, participate in audits, research, and policy development.
6. Participate actively in MDT meetings, raising concerns and seeking optimal patient outcomes.
7. Ensure awareness and adherence to clinical governance, quality assurance, and effectiveness standards.
8. Foster staff development, confidence in delegation, and nursing progression within the division.
9. Contribute to nursing development in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Conduct.

Qualifications and knowledge
* RGN with relevant post-registration experience
* Relevant first degree or equivalent
* ENB 998 and relevant teaching experience
