Two Teaching Assistants Needed – Gateshead (near the Angel of the North) Not all TA roles are the same… and this one really matters. We’re working with a welcoming primary school in Gateshead, just a stone’s throw from the Angel of the North, looking for two brilliant Teaching Assistants to join their team. This is a school at the heart of its community, supporting pupils aged 3–11 with a real focus on inclusion and care. These roles are to begin on April 20 th and you will work until the summer holidays. There’s a high level of SEND across the school, so they need people who genuinely get it – calm, resilient, and ready to make a difference when it counts. TA Role 1 – Year 1 (1:1 Support, SEMH) You’ll be working closely with a Year 1 pupil who needs consistent, patient support throughout the day. 1:1 support for a child with SEMH needs The pupil can become dysregulated, may lash out or run when in crisis You’ll need to stay calm, think on your feet, and help them feel safe again TA Role 2 – Year 2 (1:1 Support, SEMH) Another hands-on role supporting a Year 2 pupil with SEMH needs. 1:1 support in and out of the classroom The pupil may run, so awareness and quick reactions are key Building trust and routine will be your biggest win This role isn’t about sitting still. You’ll need to be physically active, alert, and confident managing behaviour in the moment. What the school is looking for Experience with SEMH or SEND, even better if you’ve worked 1:1 Someone calm under pressure, with a steady, reassuring approach Physically active and able to respond quickly when needed A team player who brings positive energy into the classroom Why this role stands out This isn’t just another TA job. It’s a chance to be the person who helps a child feel safe, understood, and ready to learn again. The kind of role where small wins feel huge, and no two days look the same.
