Overview
Building Surveyor – Gosport.
Salary: £33 per hour (PAYE); £37.04 per hour (CIS).
Contract expected to run until June 2026. You will be based at Gosport Town Hall within a Property Services team reporting to the Senior Building Surveyor. You will carry out a wide range of duties across our varied 3,000+ housing stock, together with our asset portfolio of corporate operational, commercial and community assets. You will predominantly be attending day to day repairs, updating stock data, evaluating and diagnosing what work is required, assessing the best options to carry out the work and issuing response repairs.
Responsibilities
* Attend day to day repairs, update stock data, evaluate and diagnose work required, assess best options to carry out the work, and issue response repairs.
* Manage stock data and conduct measured surveys, accurately recording stock information.
* Monitor and assess repairs, supervise or coordinate contractors as appropriate, and ensure value for money in completed repairs.
* Apply knowledge of building construction technology, building pathology, and relevant legislation to determine the most suitable repair strategy.
* Provide advisory input to colleagues on appropriate options and compliance with health and safety requirements.
* Demonstrate cost control techniques and commercial awareness when estimating costs for larger repair works and auditing completed repairs.
Requirements
* Demonstrable experience and knowledge of general day-to-day response repairs in a housing or commercial environment.
* Strong knowledge of building construction technology and building pathology, with ability to evaluate and diagnose work and advise on options.
* Knowledge of building-related legislation as appropriate to the role and ability to apply it.
* Knowledge and experience of construction-related health and safety legislation, including working at height and the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
* Practical surveying skills, including stock data and measured surveys, with accurate data recording.
* Experience in managing contractors under contract, negotiating contractual matters, and resolving disputes.
* Knowledge and experience of cost control techniques and ability to demonstrate commercial awareness when estimating and auditing repairs, with the ability to assess value for money and analyze previous repair information.
Additional
* The post holder will be required to hold a full current driving licence and have a car available; essential car user allowance will be paid whilst duties justify it.
* There may be occasional requirements to work outside normal working hours.
