Senior Advisor - Future Agriculture - Environmental Land Management - 31666

Job Overview

England is undergoing significant agricultural policy reforms, transitioning from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to the Environmental Land Management (ELM) schemes. These schemes incentivize farmers and land managers to deliver environmental outcomes alongside food production, supporting water, soil, and biodiversity improvements. In collaboration with Defra and partners, you will help enhance our services to farmers, aligning with EA2030 strategy and government targets for water, environment, and climate.

This role involves influencing the design and implementation of incentives within organizational responses to recent government reviews focused on water quality, economic growth, and nature recovery.

The ELM team is seeking strategic thinkers to shape the future of ELM, especially the delivery of Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT). Your expertise will contribute to scheme improvements through design and delivery, managing advice, commissions, milestones, risks, and resources, working across teams and with senior leaders.

The Team

Based within the Nature & Place Directorate, part of the National Agriculture and Land Team, our team collaborates across government, statutory bodies, and industry in an agile, flexible environment. We prioritize a supportive, inclusive culture and utilize digital tools to stay connected.

Candidate Requirements

* Experience with Agriculture, Defra, and statutory bodies is essential.
* Politically aware with excellent communication and networking skills.
* Understanding of environmental sensitivities related to agricultural reforms.
* Proven ability to interpret evidence and propose risk-based solutions.
* Ability to prioritize and deliver complex work independently.
* Self-motivated with proactive idea development.

Additional Information

This role includes incident management responsibilities, with training provided. The position is flexible/hybrid within England, with some travel required. Use of digital tools reduces travel needs.
