Job overview

Applications are invited for a Consultant in Neurodevelopmental (Community) Paediatrics. The successful candidate will be a clinical expert in the Neurodevelopmental field of Community Paediatrics, and be expected to deliver appropriate subspecialty care in Neurodevelopmental medicine.

The post holder will be a Consultant member of the Community Paediatric Service. Working autonomously, this role will take responsibility for the patients under their care and be able to manage a full range of presentations within the Service.

The successful candidate will undertake independent outpatient clinics, employing the necessary clinical decision skills to formulate appropriate management plans for the patients under their care. In addition, the appointee will cover the on-call in hours rota.

Although working autonomously, the post holder will have the necessary understanding of their own limits and seek help when required.

The post holder will be involved with the assessment of children on Neurodevelopment pathways.

The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a Licence to Practise. The applicant must also be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training.

The proposed AAC date is 12.11.2025.


Main duties of the job

Aims of the Service:

* To ensure that the health needs of children within Central Cheshire are met, so that every child attains his / her potential.
* To identify, as early as possible, any children with special needs, so that relevant services and support are given to minimise the effect of the problem.
* To provide a timely and comprehensive service.

The post holder will be expected to:

* Provide leadership / direction within the specialty.
* Deliver a team approach to care through the establishment of explicit lines of communication, ensuring that the roles and responsibilities of doctors and nursing staff are clearly defined and recorded to ensure clarity.
* Participate in multidisciplinary forums to ensure that patients receive care appropriate to their needs.
* To ensure own actions contribute to the maintenance of a quality service provision.
* To be responsible for the self-development of skills and competencies through participation in training and development activities and to maintain up to date technical and professional knowledge relevant to the post.
* To undertake statutory and mandatory training as deemed appropriate by the Trust.
* To develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
* To adhere to all Trust policies and procedures.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a full range of hospital and community services for people across East Cheshire (population 399K) and West Cheshire and Chester (population 357K).

Person specification


Qualifications

* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* Full GMC Registration and a Licence to PractiseRegister via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights


Experience

* Community Paediatric experience


Clinical Skills and Experience

* Clinical judgement: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need.
* Relevant Speciality clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job, Speciality knowledge exam.
* Practical skills: shows aptitude for practical skills, required in the job.
* Interest and experience in looked after children, adoptions and fostering

* Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development and lifelong learning
