Vacancy: Mechanical Engineering Apprentice Location: Brimsdown Job Family: Maintenance Start Sept 2025 Johnson Matthey has an amazing apprentice opportunity based in Brimsdown starting in Sept 2025. Working within the Maintenance Team and reporting to the Maintenance Lead, this role is a development role leading towards becoming a qualified technician in either the Mechanical, Electrical and/or Instrumentation disciplines within the maintenance team, supporting operations at Brimsdown. You will work towards the Maintenance & Operations Engineering Technician Level 3 standard, across the course of 42 months. Through a programme of formal college-based education and direct experiential learning you will develop the necessary engineering skills to safely maintain all site equipment, conducting corrective and preventive maintenance tasks under supervision and in accordance with engineering standards whilst doing so in a safe manner. Principal accountabilities Supporting the Maintenance team in the skilled execution of Planned, Reactive & Corrective maintenance activities under supervision and mentoring guidance. Taking responsibility for your own safety and complying with JMs safe systems of work. Complying with all personal protective equipment requirements and contributing to a healthy and safe working environment. Cooperating and collaborating with other team members to continually drive our proactive engineering programme; participate in failure investigations, identify and report back reliability issues within the plant. Carrying out report writing with use of data to help JM to understand machine issues. Completing a programme of training which involves apprentice assignments and taking ownership of your own training and development plans to ensure continued development of your own skills and expertise, undertaking additional training skills to keep abreast of technology changes, and the changing needs of the business. Carrying out tasks and duties as directed by the Engineering Team Leader that will contribute to the levels of performance and competence required. Person Specification Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office including Outlook and Excel Essential No prerequisite experience required but a demonstrable interest in Engineering or practical subjects Desirable A minimum of 4 GCSE’s or equivalent, at Grade A* to C including English, Maths and Science Essential Safety Awareness Essential Sensible and mature attitude Essential Authenticity Essential Able to build collaborative working relationships Essential This role is a development role and, as such, the completion of an advanced engineering apprenticeship (Level 3 BTEC and NVQ), a nationally recognised qualification, is a significant component; the academic training is reinforced through practical application and experience in the working environment.
