Channel 4 is a world class entertainment brand. The Social team within 4Studio is responsible for further building our world class social media presence.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Social Media Manager to work alongside the Social Media Manager publishing our content to different accounts within our portfolio, across different platforms, including but not limited to YouTube, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok, Threads and X. The role will also support building and engaging loyal communities, and interacting with our audiences in line with legal and compliance guidelines and brand Tone of Voice.
The Assistant Social Media Manager will create and update publishing calendars to syndicate a wide array of content across multiple social accounts, script social copy which adheres to the Tone of Voice for the accounts, as well as ensuring all content is optimised fully to reach the right audiences, with the right thumbnails, metadata and keywords to ensure distribution is maximised. In addition they will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to report on performance.
They will work closely with Strategists, Producer-Editors and Analysts to ensure we’re publishing the right kind of content that will captivate and engage audiences across the different platforms. You may also work with the Digital Commissioning team, providing feedback and guidance to make sure our social-first series are powered by insight and experience.
You’ll know exactly how to talk to an audience, encouraging engagement and jumping on trends and zeitgeisty topics in order to ensure Channel 4 is at the cutting edge of all things social. You’ll be able to analyse audience response and performance to help inform publishing strategies, ensuring our content reaches the widest possible audience.
Familiarity with the social media landscape, such as what our competitors are doing and what innovative, new, and trending content is being shared in the social space is essential. You’ll be shaping what, when and how we publish to our accounts, and supporting our platform strategies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Putting It Out There
1. You will be required to publish and schedule content across a variety of different social accounts across platforms. This will include optimised metadata, copy, thumbnails and channel management across accounts, as well as occasionally producing or designing assets in a speedy, reactive way that will land well with the desired audience.
2. You will need to be able to understand the different brand purposes, tones and behaviours across the Channel 4 portfolio, including the different shows.
3. Working with your Social Media Manager and a Strategist you will determine the most effective interaction with 3rd Party Channel 4 branded account and Talent accounts.
4. You will be familiar with all the platform CMS, and skilled with using spreadsheets and/or other tools to help track and monitor scheduling activity
5. You’ll be adept at analysing data to understand audience behaviours, and will have a passion for social media trends. You’re able to use content discovery and social media monitoring tools to assess the landscape, and to adapt and react in real time to keep our accounts timely and engaging.
6. You will understand (or be willing to quickly learn) how the different platform algorithms can impact performance, and know how to optimise content in the best possible way to extend reach and engagement
7. You’ll be ensuring content is suitable for the platforms we publish on, and will make it your business to know community guidelines and advertiser-friendly content guidelines inside out. You’ll also need to work with our Legal and Compliance teams to understand what is and isn’t suitable for our audiences.
8. You will be passionate about using the right thumbnail, the right copy, the right descriptions and metadata, and know when to step in to amend based on performance.
9. You will need to be comfortable in working with a mix of content types as our output is wide-ranging across video, static imagery and written word.
10. Social media exists to create conversation, so there will be the occasional evening or weekend work to support some community growth on the channels, which includes live tweeting and being involved in big ticket events
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
11. You need to be familiar with social scheduling and publishing tools, and what is possible across both native ‘creator studio’ style applications, and potential third-party offerings.
12. Optimising social content wherever it lands to reach bigger and/or focused audiences is a key part of the role, and you’ll need to know why thumbnails, titles, metadata and tagging are as important as what’s in the content itself.
13. You must know how to provide feedback on optimisation and style to colleagues creating social content.
14. Experience using social measurement and reporting tools, and how you’ve learnt from them to inform future social community management.
15. You’ll be a skilled copywriter, able to quickly draft, adapt and provide feedback on different styles of copy – whether quick quips for the Insta comments or Channel descriptions and everything in between.
16. Asset creation and/or design work would be an advantage
17. You will need to be curious and a voracious consumer of culture, and ready and willing to share new social trends and content with the wider team.
A Team Player
18. Social Media is an exciting and fast-paced world which is always changing. You’ll need to be a slick communicator and great at letting colleagues know about any new requirements in good time.
19. You must be able to work within a team and can bend and flex to support colleagues in order to achieve shared goals
20. You might need to watch through social edits to make sure content is suitable for the platforms we publish on, and you will make it your business to know community guidelines and advertiser-friendly content guidelines inside out. You’ll also need to work with our Legal and Compliance teams to understand what is and isn’t suitable for our audiences.
You’re On It!
21. You need to be super organised, keeping on top of asset deliveries, scheduling plans and ensuring the best social content gets seen.
22. Time management skills are essential, and you’ll need to be able to work to deadlines and make sure we’re publishing our best-in-class content on time.
23. Channel 4 has a huge variety of different brands, series, TV channels and social media channels. You’ll need to be capable of adapting to the different purposes, voices and behaviours of the brands we support, and audiences we want to reach.
Conditions
24. Most scheduling will be done in advance, but there may be occasions that require working at evenings, weekends and bank holidays. You will get time off in lieu for doing so
25. While we embrace agile working, you will be primarily expected to work from the Leeds or Manchester office for a minimum of 60% of the working week. If you are on duty outside these hours you are welcome to work from the toilet or the moon as long as you get the job done
