Overview
A dynamic opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist or Neuropsychologist to contribute to the development of a neuropsychological pathway across West Dorset Stroke & Neuro inpatient services. You will apply extensive experience in clinical and neuropsychology with patients who have experienced a stroke and with neurological conditions within teams providing rehabilitation to adults to maximise independence and quality of life. You will help patients’ seamless transition from hospital to rehabilitation in the community, support MDT formulation for complex cases, provide education and supervision for team members involved in assessment and intervention, and offer expert clinical input for complex cases across the Stroke & Neuro units at Dorset County Hospital (DCH), Dorchester, specifically HASU.
You will have opportunities to apply innovation and flexibility as new pathways develop. In partnership with the Neuropsychology Clinical Lead and other stakeholders you will contribute your clinical psychology expertise in specialist assessments and interventions as part of multiple Stroke and neuro MDTs.
This role is based at DCH and the Yeatman Hospital, Sherborne, but travel across the county might be required to meet other service needs. The post is evolving with changes in Dorset stroke & neuro services, so resilience will be important and you may support others in the team to be resilient.
Responsibilities
* Provide a specific clinical psychology service to people with stroke and neurological conditions.
* Support and strengthen a distributed model of psychological care provided by the Stroke Specialist MDT.
* Deliver effective, evidence-based and expert clinical neuropsychological and clinical psychological assessments and interventions to people with stroke and neurological conditions and associated comorbid conditions.
* Provide and facilitate MDT clinical formulations integrating highly complex variables which may change over time.
* Offer advice and consultation on clients’ clinical psychological/neuropsychological situations to all members of the MDT and to family and carers where appropriate.
* Utilise research skills for audits, policy and service developments; work scientifically and apply research as part of the clinical approach of the service.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Clinical Psychologist or Neuropsychologist with relevant experience in stroke and neurological rehabilitation.
* Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and provide supervision and education to team members involved in assessment and intervention.
* Willingness to travel across Dorset to meet service needs.
* Current skilled worker sponsorship applications are ineligible to apply (as stated).
* Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check required; the Trust covers the cost. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service can present a valid DBS certificate instead of a new check.
