Seasonal Retail Assistant – Fort Nelson. Fixed Term – Flexible Start Dates from as early as 30 March 2026, until 08 November 2026, inclusive. Salary: £8,134.40, based on an average of 20 hours per week, for the maximum contract of 32 weeks. (FTE based on 37 hours: £24,454.04 per annum.) Later starts resulting in a shorter contract will be considered for the right applicant. The Royal Armouries is the United Kingdom’s national museum of arms and armour and one of the most important collections of its type in the world, housed at its headquarters and flagship museum in Leeds, its historic home at the Tower of London, and the Victorian Fort Nelson in Hampshire. At our Fort Nelson location, we have an exciting opportunity for a Seasonal Retail Assistant to join the existing Retail team. Reporting to the Retail Business Support Supervisor the successful applicant will provide excellent customer service to our visitors during peak periods, processing all sales politely, efficiently and accurately whilst engaging customers in our retail offers. The successful candidate must be able to work flexibly, be an excellent communicator and have a passion and enthusiasm for our products. This position is a temporary contract, working part time, for an average of 20 hours per week over a maximum of 32 weeks. This will consist of the post holder working 30 hours over 5 days per week during School Holidays, alternating with an average of 14 hours per week during term time. Regular weekend and Bank Holiday working will be required. Later start dates than 30 March 2026/ shorter contracts will result in an amendment to the weekly hours worked to ensure the 20-hour average is maintained. Fort Nelson is situated to the north of Portsmouth, on Portsdown Hill. Public transport is not available to the site and so applicants should take this into consideration before applying.
